Knot Pillows by Electric Feathers

This isn’t your normal pillow, and that is exactly its charm. Instead of one semi-fluffy square (so boring!), the Knot Pillow is one long tube of cotton fluffiness sewn in silk pongee fabric, hand painted and tied up in a large knot. Fun, right? And especially handy in a pillow fight, I’d think.

New designs from Forestry are here just in time to keep your toes warm this winter. Made from 100% New Zealand wool, each design is spare and elegant with subdued colors that are friendly to any interior- that’ll make those modern design aficionados on your list happy as can be. Wooly Wood Throw

How about a Wooly Wood Throw to keep you warm this winter? Soft and reversible, this 100% lambswool throw is woven in Scotland and designed by Donna Wilson. Drape it nicely over a sofa or chair back or keep it at the end of the bed, and it’ll be ready to warm up your appendages at a moment’s notice.

Mika Barr Textiles

Origami textiles? Yes, indeed. We might have featured Mika Barr’s work previously, but right now our search isn’t working (sorry, we’re tweaking the site), so forgive the repeat if we have shown off her throws and pillows before. The throws are especially eye-catching, as the printed fabric shows off its faceted nature best when casually draped across a sofa or chair. Can you believe they’re machine washable? Pretty impressive.

Lindsay Stead Collection Quilts

Modern interpretations of traditional quilt patterns are just one of those things that hit the perfect note between old and new, though sometimes the colors are a little too bright or the design just a tad too busy. You’ll be happy to know the Collection Quilts by Lindsay Stead are quietly modern and refrain from any garish colors or designs. Each quilt is of heirloom quality, as they are hand quilted by a group of women in rural Ontario. Pick your favorite design knowing it’ll keep you warm on chilly nights while adding a good dose of handmade charm to your home.

Zuzunaga’s Beach Towel Collection

An old, fraying beach towel doesn’t help you look any better, so why not upgrade to one of these smack-you-in-the-face-with-pattern towels by Cristian Zuzunaga? The upside is if you don’t have a spectacular (according to the media) body, the towel will grab people’s attention first (as in, ‘Ooo, who’s that fascinating person with that beach towel?’) and, if you do have a spectacular (according to the media) body, you’ll look like you have good taste (‘Ooo, who’s that hottie with that cool beach towel?’). You get the idea.

Zuzunaga’s Zoom In + Zoom Out Blankets

More pixelated Bitmap imagery from Spanish designer Cristian Zuzunaga, and this time he’s taking cues from British painter Bridget Riley. It’s a great pairing, don’t you think? You might have seen some of Zuzunaga’s other pieces before, and I’d say this collection seems a little more quiet, though just as energetic- like a shy kid that just ate a LOT of sugar.

BFGF Woven Blankets

If you’re shivering alone at night, wondering where all the other weird and wonderful people are, you need a BFGF blanket to keep you company. With simple sketches of banal objects, the blankets give a casual cartoon perspective that is both familiar and funny. The Worldwide Aura Blanket (above) is my favorite, but the others will be just as warm and will perhaps suit you and your décor just as well. BFGF also have mouse pads, bags, and apparel, if you’re in a shopping mood.

Artist Throws by Justin Lowe & Jonah Freeman

Does your interior need a little more warmth and a little more art? Combine the two needs in one linen throw, digitally printed with an image by Justin Lowe and Jonah Freeman. They’re big enough to wrap yourself in as an extra layer of warmth and maybe even small enough to take with you on your travels (airplanes get coooold, as we know).

Diagonals Girard Wool Blanket by Vitra

A trippy, two-toned pattern blanket is just what you need, right? Alexander Girard is known for his brightly patterned pieces, and now you’re able to wrap yourself up tight in this black and white (and slightly frantic?) design to ward off the chill. Made of Merino lamb’s wool, it’s lightweight, fine, and soft, and will complement any color scheme.

Feather Pillowcases by Kiki Smith

Maybe you can’t afford an original piece of art by Kiki Smith, but you can probably set aside $80 for pillowcases… if you really, really like Smith’s work, that is (it’s not for everyone*). The pillowcases are standard-sized, and features her drawings of screen-printed feathers and embroidered stars.

Louise Gray Quilts

Sure, there are some modern/minimal quilts out there- Meg Callahan, Haptic Lab, Mary Keasler and Hopewell Workshop, just to name a few- and now we can add yet another excellent option to the list. The Louise Gray company offers a handful of color blocked quilts that would fit easily into any modern interior. Entirely hand crafted in the US, the quilts could work as a throw or as a wall hanging, and maybe, if we keep our collective fingers crossed, they’ll soon offer larger bed-size options.

1100 Carded Wool Blanket by Roberta Licini

It’s still cold outside, so here’s a very fashionable 100% carded wool blanket to keep you warm. Fair warning, though, it’s not cheap, partly because it looks like it should be hanging on the wall as an abstract art piece instead of on your bed as a blanket. You could probably even get away with wearing it out in public as a sort of sweater coat/wrap (if you’re brave), especially as it’s from fashion knitwear designer Roberta Licini.

Fragment Cushions

Does anyone else feel like it’s hard to find the right sort of accent pillow? You don’t want anything too wacky, and sometimes a solid block of color seems too safe (and a little boring). Perhaps some might sort these Fragment Cushions from Ferm Living into the wacky pile, but I think they’re fun, and have a bolder color scheme that would inject a good bit of pattern into an otherwise ho-hum room.

Houses Throw by Alyson Fox

Need another throw to keep your toes warm? This one is a good choice, as it’s made of 100% baby Alpaca Jacquard (by a socially sustainable collective in Peru, no less) and has a hand embroidered pattern by Alyson Fox. Yes, you’ve probably heard of Alyson Fox and, yes, you probably love her just as much as everyone else. Maybe you’ve seen her rug designs or maybe you’ve run across images of her house via Freunde von Freunden, either way, there’s no arguing she’s got talent.
