Stools

PANTONE® Flight Stools

These certainly aren’t new, but they are definitely worth a nod. Pantone has licensed a ton of great products in the past few years, making all of us color nuts quite happy to pick our favorite shade of mug, bag, etc. This stool would be perfect for a little jolt of color in seating options.

Box Stool

Big Game is one to watch out for these days; they’ve got a great collection of home furnishings that’s both interesting and edgy (and not too terribly expensive). This stool is pretty simple, yet intriguing in that it borrows pleating techniques from the cardboard industry to make a foldable aluminum seat. Light and versatile, the Box stool has one hole in the center of the seat to make it easy to move around.

Designed by Big Game, produced by Moustache.

Metro Stool

Inspired by the graphic style of metropolitan subway maps, this stool becomes a bench when several are placed together. The stool also could be an interesting side table if need be.

Bisonte Stacking Stool

Obviously the name denotes the design, but what strikes me most about this stool is not only the shape of one on its own, but the shape when stacked several high. It almost looks like an extremely robust coat hanger or totem-like sculpture.

Miniature Tabouret Hemp Stools by Christian Astuguevieille

So rough and uncouth, yet so chic and expensive. Irreverent design is Astuguevieille’s signature, as is rope…he uses it whenever possible! And when he’s not using rope, he’s covering things in other questionable media…

Kikkerland Folding Stool

This is one of my favorite designs ever. It’s a quite sturdy plastic stool that folds out in about 3 seconds. Quite ingeniously, the carrying handle pops out when folded back up. When living in my tiny New York apartment, it always amused me whenever I put it back in its storage place; the 4 inch gap in between the wall and the refrigerator. It supports up to 300 lbs and at $29, is well worth the price.

Nook Stool

Made from a single piece of Varioline (see below), this folded fellow looks to be a surprisingly sturdy little stool.

According to Google translator:

NOOK is made of the innovative plastic Varioline. Varioline is a sheet material that possesses a high-tech injection by one closed cell foam core, the high density of two, non-porous surface layers is enclosed. This makes the material easy and yet robust, rigid, yet flexible and weather resistant and UV resistant.

Offcut Stool by Tom Dixon

Flat packed and put together by you with no extra screws or glue, this stool sounds like it’s from Ikea… until you see the price. But, hey, if you’re as desensitized as me, $200 for a stool sounds like a bargain, especially after adding in the designer’s name.

“designed by tom dixon, the offcut stool’s elementary form is the result of several innovations; the circular round seat makes clever use of the curved offcuts, its construction requires no additional screws or glue, and the stool is flat packed for ease of delivery.”

dimensions: 17.7″dia x 17.3″h.

Studio Ubico, “stump” series

These 100% recycled stool/tables are double the fun (sort of like the gum) with their affordable price tags and quirky made-from-woodscraps design.

Stump series started in the industrial garbage cans in the area near our factory. Small pieces of hardwood are thrown from carpentries in the area in large quantities. Through the series development it became clear that we can reduce costs and become socially involved through passing some of the production to a factory which employs disabled people.
