First off, the $150 price is for the kid-sized version, but, that said, $225 isn’t too bad of a price for an aluminium (or, as us Americans would say, aluminum) stacking stool. The Eiffel stool can easily live indoors or out, and do check out the image below of the stools stacked 5 high (space saving!), and see if that doesn’t impress you the tiniest bit more.

You might know Alissia Melka-Teichroew for her acrylic rings or the Inside Out glassware from a while ago, and now you can add this off-kilter stool to her list of successes. Would you have guessed she was inspired by crooked slats in a picket fence? By combining the asymmetry of the fence with the irregularity of the old-fashioned one-legged milk stool, she arrived at this sturdy and expressive design.

Swedish furniture producers Swedese pays homage to the classic Alvar Aalto stacking stools in function and spirit, but with a new spin (get it?) on aesthetics. Many prototypes and experiments resulted in laminated veneer legs bending in two directions, giving the stationary stool a spiraling motion. Spin Stools are made to order with an 8-10 week lead time.

If you think this is too expensive for a rocking stool, perhaps we should put it to a test and compare it to a Fit-Chair. Sure, the exercise-ball-as-chair does wonders for your posture, but it looks horrible. As in, so horrible it’s offensive to the eyes. Contrast the exercise-ball-as-chair with the Monarchy Rocking Stool by Feld. If I had to choose which one to have in my own home, I’d save up my pennies for a very long time and, you guessed it, get the Monarchy Stool. It swivels and rocks forwards and backwards and sideways, and looks fifty times better than the aforementioned alternative.

There’s nothing like a big hunk of zinc to make you plunk down 800 bucks, especially when there’s hexagons pentagons involved. That’s probably an untrue statement, as you most likely wouldn’t plunk down 800 bucks for much of anything, let alone a zinc stool, but the hexagons pentagons do make one a bit dizzy with design lust, as they would fit well in many a modern interior.

Pay attention and you’ll see the charm in this stool designed by outofstock. The seat is gently curved so it’s easy on the thighs and criss-crossed dowels ensure that the legs stay sturdy- all this with no screws. Yes, we’ve featured this little guy before, but after a couple of years, he needs his info updated. This stool appears to be inflated plastic, but is, in fact, made from welded steel sheets that are industrially inflated. This manufacturing process (called FiDU (Freielnnen Druck Umformung)= ‘free inner pressure deformation’) was developed by Oskar Zieta and allows for lightweight forms to hold a fair amount of weight with minimal material. No two are alike.
