Cork Family Stools

Lest we forget, Jasper Morrison’s Cork Family is a smart choice for any living area. Each piece could be a side table or stool and is light enough to move around easily. Cork is also pretty tough, so you wouldn’t need to be too precious with keeping it away from kids. Oh, and you could also use them outside if you so desire. Available in 3 different styles (and yes, they’re priced individually).

Last Stool Steel

A splattered steel stool by Max Lamb? Yes, please. Hem has a variety of colors, so you’re sure to find something you love. The polished copper version is especially cool, but it’s sold out. Boo-hoo. Thank goodness there are so many other options.

Woodieful Chair

Here’s a stool that doubles as a table/nightstand or a book/magazine stand. How so? Well, depending on which way you flip it, the function changes. One side has a flat, sturdy surface to park your backside, while another side has slots that allow for records, books, or magazines to stand up straight. There’s quite a few options, and there’s no doubt you’ll have some fun moving it from room to room to fit your needs.

Bookniture

Furniture in a book? Yes, please. This was a Kickstarter project, but now you can purchase directly from Bookniture or from MoMA Store to have your very own book that transforms into a stool/ottoman/table, quick as can be. Maybe it’s perfect for your very small space (and budget), or maybe you just appreciate the fact that it’d be easy to take out to your patio or to the park. Either way, it’s easy to store away when not in use, as you can slide it in amongst your books on a bookshelf.

‘Svelto’ Round Stacking Stool

At first glance, you could be forgiven for letting your eyes slide right over this stool on to other more exciting things. However, on second sight, if you don’t notice the lovely detail of the slightly concave top, and then, of course, the leg shape and joinery underneath (you do have to turn furniture over occasionally, it’s the nature of appreciating design), then I’ll have to give you a verbal slap for not paying attention. The Svelto Stool stacks for storage, with each stool rotating slightly from the one below.

Plywood Void Stool

This isn’t new, but it remains a stand-out piece in the seating/side table category. Designed by Ron Gilad in 2003, this stool/end table is quite the thing to have in your home. Leave the space empty and enjoy the inside/outside silhouette or use it for storage- it looks fantastic with stuffed with books.

Circus Pouf by Normann Copenhagen

The Circus Pouf by Normann Copenhagen is so fun I can hardly resist adding one or two somewhere in my living room. Plus, it’s now available in velour, and, just in case you were wondering, yes, that does increase its appeal. It’s so round and friendly- I bet we’d all sit back and put up our feet more often if this little guy was around. Use it as a footrest, a coffee table, or an extra seat when guests drop by. It won’t lose its shape either- two different types of foam ensures softness on the upper and firmness on the bottom.

Coleman Camp Stool

We’ve featured the Colman Stool by Greta de Parry before, but this Coleman Camp Stool comes in an adjustable 18-24″ height with a lower price point. So, just in case you’re looking for a smaller side table/stool, this one could be a good option, especially as the solid steel base and concrete top (several colors available) make it appropriate for indoor or outdoor use.

Stackable Stool/Table by Atelier de Troupe

A stackable stool is a pretty smart buy, as you’ll not be caught without extra seating if a whole load of friends stop by (we all know how popular you are). Plus, this stackable stool by Atelier de Troupe could easily double as a side table in the living area or bedroom. Made of an iron base and a waxed alder wood seat, it’s a safe bet you’ll not regret adding a few of these, as they’ll last a very long time.

Loveseat Shift by Margaux Keller

I know you’re in the thick of things, picking out holiday gifts in these last days of the non-rush shipping window, but let’s take a break and look at this Loveseat Shift by Margaux Keller. It’s not a traditional upholstered two-person seat, instead, the smaller stool has been modified to create a potential perch for two. The size is entirely suitable as a side table or extra seat, and the clever spliced shape will add a little bit of humor to an interior.

Stanley Stool

Can you have too many stools and side tables? Nah. This stool has a powder coated steel frame in several autumnal colors (orange, bordeaux, green, light grey, dark grey) and a natural cork seat that’s friendlier to your guests’ derriรจres when used as an extra seating spot. Sterling Side Table Stool

For $100, you could do so much worse than this Sterling Side Table/Stool. Believe me, I just did a quick search and it’s not a pretty sight. Save yourself by considering this sand cast aluminum seating option. It has a slight rippled surface thanks to its hand-poured nature, with a high mirrored finish to obtain a sleek-yet-subtle vibe.

ZZZ Stool

Another piece from Ethnicraft’s Universo Positivo collection? You got it, and it certainly won’t put you to sleep. When a room has to function in multiple ways, it’s best to choose pieces that are robust and versatile. This ZZZ Stool is made from powder coated steel and may also function as a side table, which checks off both boxes. One would assume it would be safe outdoors as well.
