Hollow 3-seat Sofa

Shazam! Check out this snazzy seating option from the lovely Ms. Uroquiola. While perhaps the thinner cushioning seems to be more fit for an office or reception area sofa than a jump/sink/settle-in-to-watch-a-movie-type sofa, the lines and style are spectacular.

Hollow is a modular compact seating collection for reception, lounge and meeting applications. The concave plastic panels enhance the appearance of the lightness and give the collection its name. Numerous variations in finishes and dimensions allow the Hollow collection to be specified in diverse variations with alternative monochromatic or contrasting aesthetic options.

Design Patricia Uroquiola, 2006.

Bottoni Slim

I love the slim arms on the Bottoni line by Marcel Wanders. It really adds an edge of sophistication.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Bottoni collection, the concept is that you can change the look of a piece by switching out “plaids” by attaching them to the buttons. Plaids can be attached to each model using Buttons and are available in 5 unique patterned fabrics.

The Bottoni collection is available in three different models: standard, slim and shelf. You can order each model in four different sizes.

Modern Tree Trunk Stool

Add a tree trunk stool to your home and wait for the squirrels and mice to start helping you clean while they merrily sing along to your favorite tune. Maybe that won’t happen (and maybe it will), but the finish on this stool helps modernize the tree trunk look so that it could easily be at home amongst a contemporary room setting.

This striking contemporary stool is entirely hand crafted [and] features lifelike detail. Made with ceramic which is glazed in matte gunmetal. It has a very elegant finish for a rustic motif but fits equally well in a contemporary home.

Size: 18.50″ h x 15.50″ w x 15.50″ d
Material: ceramic with matte gunmetal finish.

Kada Stool by Yves Behar

How much would you pay for a handy all-in-one seat, tray, and table that folds away flat? Not $900? I thought so, me either. It’s such a shame; it’s so incredibly smart and useful, yet it’s too steep of a price for most.

Kada is a multifunctional folding seat which has infinite possibilities of use. Its versatility makes it an absolutely transversal object, that fits all spaces and can be changed to fit all situations thanks to its different finish and the possibility of becoming custom-made, according to different layers put on its laminated surface. Its performances change thanks to different uses of the metallic top which can become seating, table or tray.

Technical Description: structure in natural wood or laminated white, grey, black, red neoprene zipper metal top varnished light grey or dark grey.
Size: 13.78″w x 13.78″d x 17.72″h

Woolly Chair

This is obviously* more of a ‘hey, look at this’ than a ‘omg-this-will-make-your-life-better’ post, though the description will have you believing otherwise.

Jason Miller creates something prehistoric in the woolly chair, a seat that that furniture will ponder and feel ancestrally drawn to. Seemingly upholstered by a mythical Beastie (the fur-like creature, of fairy origins, whose sole purpose is to comfort), it is decadent and playful, a Jason Miller standard.

Peel Chaise/Sleeper Green by Council Design

Minimal elegance, indeed. This chaise by Council Design is a sight for sore eyes (or head, as the case may be), looking like the perfect resting place after a long day’s work. It’s quite dear in price, though, really a shame for those of us without super thick wallets.

Nesting Tables/Step Stools by Paul Loebach

Uh, how much do you love these tables by Mr. Loebach? If you didn’t say ‘very much’ or were stricken speechless then I don’t know what to do with you. First off, they are tables and step stools, which makes them functional for small spaces, yada yada yada. Second, they are available in some of the best color choices (charcoal, green, and the most delightful shade of blue (in my opinion)). Third, and perhaps most importantly, each table/stool opens at the top (with safety hinged lids) for extra storage. Fourth, they are a little awkward in just how humble they look, and doesn’t that just make you love them more? All that said, I think it’s the colors that make them stand out as wonderful little nesting tables/step stools. Take note they won’t ship until mid-October.

Material: Wood and MDF with safety hinges

Available for pre-order.

Risom Rocker

Jens Risom, perhaps best known for his Lounge Chair (you know, the one with woven straps) has designed an upholstered rocker that looks decidedly mid century yet feels current somehow (perhaps that’s the magic of classic Danish modernism?).

The Risom Rocker (2009) has a nine-button tufted back; a nod toward the classic Danish modern aesthetic that can be found in all of Risom’s work. Made in U.S.A.

* A high back supports your head while you rock.
* The armrests are sculpted for comfortable support.
* A hidden counterweight in the front rail helps ensure a smooth, deep rock.

Materials: Solid walnut frame; Maharam Milestone fabric, 78% post-industrial recycled polyester, 15% polyester, 7% nylon.

Sway Stool by dmfd

Back in November of ’05 one of us posted this Sway Stool. Fast forward to today where it’s $102 more than the orginal price but just as entertaining to own (I’m sure), hence the update.

These stools are made completely from cork that originates as the waste material from the bottle stopper industry. The central column of the stool, located directly under the spine of the user, is flexible, solid cork while the rest is perforated. The result is a seat that flexes and pivots under the weight of the user, responding to the slightest body movement. The user’s muscles remain slightly engaged to maintain balance, improving posture and circulation. Many have reported this to be a perfect seat for working at a desk or computer, enabling the user to move and rock while working and thinking. – dmfd

Vegetal Chair

Vegetal, Vegetable…whatever the name, pay attention to these five things: lightweight, sturdy, stackable, indoor/outdoor appropriate, and comfortable. The price point isn’t exactly the most affordable thing, but the chair is notable nonetheless.

Nature served as the inspiration for this chair’s organic design. Its plant-like structure is made from dyed recyclable polyamide using innovative injection-mold technology. Lightweight, sturdy, and comfortable, the chairs stack up to three high and are suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Hand-wash only. Made by Vitra.
