Squares Throw

Here’s another very suitable option for keeping yourself warm. This 100% Baby Alpaca Jacquard Squares Throw is a collaboration between designer Alyson Fox and Hawkins New York and has hand embroidered detailing as well as a reverse colored back. A grey, blue, and black color scheme won’t clash with your living or sleeping areas, so keep it handy to have an extra layer of warmth while reading a book or watching a movie.

Sailor’s Knot Handmade Quilt

A new Meg Callahan quilt is just what you need, considering the cold air that’s bound to make itself at home for another few months. And, unlike the smaller throw sizes available from Matter, this quilt is sized for a queen bed or as a top layer for a king. This design is a collaboration between Meg Callahan and Hawkins New York and features hand stitching with a screen-printed graphic.

Sensation Blanket by Zuzunaga

Think of this as a color field art piece that will keep you (or your giftee) warm. The handwoven mix of 100% ecological French merino wool shows color combination at a basic level: off-white, Yellow, Red, Green and Gray are woven to create a one larger rectangle of an earthy sort of yellow ochre. This one, the Sensation blanket, is my favorite, but there are others as well: Intuition, Feeling, and Thinking. Or, for a more pixelated mix, check out the Labyrinth. All by Zuzunaga.

One of a Kind Quilt by Piet Hein Eek

Recycled quilts are great, but recycled quilts from Piet Hein Eek and Borre Akkersdijk are even better. They’re made of unused silk necktie fabrics, and were inspired by a visit to a former ties factory in Milan called the Spazio Rosanna Orlandi. All those silky fabrics with interesting patterns being reused to keep us warm? Yes, please. Smart, and sort of not surprising, considering Piet Hein Eek’s work in recycled wood. Each one is unique, so be prepared for a different version than the quilts pictured.

Coastal Quilts by Haptic Lab

If you’re fond of one of the several coastal areas in the United States, you’ll want to take a look at Haptic Lab’s new Coastal Quilts. Gold polysilk is appliquéd onto a pale blue soft cotton, representing the familiar places near the sea. Puget Sound, Penobscot Bay, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, and Cape Cod are available now, with more following throughout the next several weeks and months.

Squares Blanket

Autumn weather means cozying up with sweaters, and when available, wrapping yourself up in a warm blanket. For those chillier fall evenings, be sure you have a soft throw lying within reach of the sofa, as it’s better to use a throw than to turn up the heat (save money, save energy). This Squares Blanket by Zuzunaga is woven by hand using 100% ecological French merino wool, and just try not to feel anything other than cheeriness when covered, all safe and warm, with its bright pattern of squares.

Hopewell Quilts + Pillows

This isn’t the first time we’ve featured Hopewell’s quilts and it certainly won’t be the last. Have you taken a look at their recent collection? There’s quite a few modern pillows and quilts, so if your bed, sofa, or wall needs a little kick in the pants in terms of color, you’d best take a look and see if something catches your fancy.

Linen Towels

There are hundreds of things I could post right now instead of these Linen Towels designed by Fredericks & Mae, but I care about you, your comfort, and your general appearance when you’re at the beach or poolside this Fourth of July weekend.

Now, you can show up with that old beach towel that has sat in the closet since high school, and, hey, maybe you’ll even look cool with your ‘vintage’ towel. However, after you’ve used it once to mop up the salt or chlorine water, you’d best not trust too much in its ability to dry you off a second or third time.

These 100% Irish linen towels are different. Sure, they look pretty amazing with their color stripes, and yes, linen is exceptionally cool and fresh in hot weather, but did you know linen holds around 20 times its weight in water and dries much faster than a normal terry cloth towel? No? Well, you do now. Plus, their size is large enough to double as a decent blanket or wall hanging; you can’t say that for your existing beach/pool towel, now, can you?

Tokyo 2 and New York 1 Bitmap Blanket

Gah! I know that Cristian Zuzunaga’s Digital Sunrise Blanket might have been a little too much color and pattern, but don’t let that dissuade you from considering some of the other knitted blankets in the collection. Tokyo 2 Bitmap Blanket is the one above, and New York 1 Bitmap Blanket the one below. Both are a little less crazy with their limited color palette, yet they’ll still prove that you can be brave when it comes to textiles. Perhaps one might fit the bill for a lightweight summer blanket for your bed? You may also purchase these blankets (amongst other items) directly from Zuzunaga’s Design Studio (€240 ex.VAT), but be advised you’ll need to pay for shipping/customs.

Hay Pool Towels

You guessed it, Scholten and Baijings are back again, this time with towels to make sure your design sensibility is not offended while you’re poolside. After all, you wouldn’t want to be caught lounging/swimming without a fun, color blocked, 100% cotton towel made by one of our favorite dynamic duos, would you? No? I didn’t think so.

Orion, Pegasus, Cygnus Quilts by Mary Keasler

What just happened? How in the world did these constellation quilts by Mary Keasler skip the collective radar until now? One side is white, featuring the well-known constellation, and the reverse side is solid navy. As there is no true top or bottom, you may rotate the quilts as you wish for a new perspective of the night sky’s brighter characters.

Digital Sunrise Blanket

More pixilated textiles, though this time it’s turned all the way up to an almost obnoxious color play of red, yellow, blue, green and black. Spanish artist and designer Cristian Zuzunaga is the man behind this silk and superfine merino wool blanket, and, if you’re a fan of vivid colors and strong patterns, you’ll want to take a look at the other items in his Bitmap collection, for there’s a fair share of clothes and other textiles sure to infuse your wardrobe and home with one heck of patterned punch.

Nathalie Du Pasquier Cushions

Normally, one would tend to stay away from overly bright colors and busy patterns in interior settings to avoid looking too crazy, but that’s all forgotten once one sees the printed cushions by Nathalie Du Pasquier. Yes, the patterns are bright and busy, and that’s exactly their appeal- they just make sense.

Heartwarmer Cushion

In a reluctant nod to the holiday that is Valentine’s Day, I present you with the Heartwarmer Cushion. It may be placed in the microwave or freezer to warm or cool whatever region that may need it. (Considering the very cold February we’ve been having, the warmth of a heart-shaped cushion on toes and fingers would be especially nice, wouldn’t it?)

Boh Blanket

What do we need when the temperature drops? A hot cup of tea, a good book, and a wool blanket will do just fine, thank you very much. And, if that wool blanket has a nice skewed stripe design and is made from 100% lambs wool, well, that just makes things perfect. Available in black/gray, red, or bottle green, from Merchant No. 4 or directly from the designer, Forestry, for €129.
