Give the gift of flowers, freshly printed flowers, that is. Designed by Sandra Bautista, Fresh Flowers is a 32 page newspaper with flowers replacing headlines. It would be a good gift for someone who has an appreciation for art and design, and definitely less tacky than plastic flowers. I personally would forgo the vase and dedicate a place on the wall for these and rotate in a new print every few weeks.

If you’re looking for some art —okay not just any art, but big, large-scale art—to put up in a room, this may be your answer. Ixxi is a modular connecting system to piece together printed panels that make up a larger picture. Simply upload your image to their website, choose your final output size, and Ixxi will determine how many panels and “x” and “i” connectors are needed for the artwork. Ixxi is printed on Synaps synethetic paper, a material that is moisture resistant and tear-proof, so rest assured your investment should last you for many years to come. It takes about a minute to load, but it’s well worth it to check out Ixxi’s inspiration gallery. Every other image I saw in there I caught myself saying, “ohh i want that.”

No frowny faces allowed in the proximity of this print. It’s small, so you could fit it just about anywhere, and it would remind you to grow the heck up when you’re tempted to complain about something (anything).
Letterpress printed on heavy, recycled black paper.
Size: 8.00″ × 10.00″

Oh, here’s another overseas item that’s just too interesting to pass up. No worries, though as it is available to buy (also through PayPal, if you like). What is it exactly? A pattern sheet, obviously, that you can use to hammer out a pattern in nails on your wall. Connect the dots with string and remove pattern to see an altogether different “Masterpiece”.

Perhaps you’re a little tired of wall decals, and believe me, I understand, but take just a moment to check out this one by Camila León. It’s just the right size; it would look similar to wallpaper in smaller room (say, a powder room), and on a larger wall it would be more of an art focal point. It’s a limited edition (50-piece), so if you’re into it, you better grab it soonish.

A little art on a friday never hurt anyone, right? I ran across Saatchi Online the other day, and found there to be quite an array of interesting art starting around the $60 mark and going up into the thousands for originals. So, whether you’ve a few bucks to spend or lots and lots to invest, you might find something that suits your fancy. A few of my favorites are below.

I recently saw these handmade cards at a local store and absolutely had to buy one. Made by Etsy artist Marnie Karger, selling under the store name Crafterall, natural landmarks such as Manhattan and the Great Lakes are recreated in intricate paper cut topographies. Many sizes, styles, and colors are available, so be sure to check out the store.

Textile designer Lourdes Sanchez recently collaborated with WestElm and turned some of her textile designs into wall art. I would ordinarily not recommend purchasing artwork from a mass retailer because I usually I believe that art should have some meaning when you choose to purchase it and put it in your home…but I’m a sucker for geometrics and Lourdes is a real artist so I’m going against my better judgement.
