Eames House Bird

“Charles and Ray Eames liked to surround themselves with traditional craft objects from around the world, which they collected on their extensive travels. One of their favourite objects was a bird made of black painted wood that was produced in the Appalachian Mountains at the beginning of the 20th century. The figure accompanied them from the 1950s onwards and can be seen in many photographs of the Eames’ living room. Based on the original artefact and in cooperation with the Eames Family, Vitra is now producing the first series of this figure.”

Cameroon Headdress

Call me a nutcase, but I have always wanted one of these, and have never seen any for sale until now. The texture and color and the sheer size…The only thing that keeps me from buying one right this second (for real) is the ‘more colors coming soon.’ (blue? black?)

Carved Wood Birds by Roost

Domestic Trophies

Here’s a fuzzy art piece that’s quite a different take on the traditional hunting trophy. Rachel Denny hand makes these trophies in her studio, so each will be unique in color and pattern. There’s also some angora rabbits she’s working on that are worth taking a look at.

Domestic Trophy (deer mount) series are between $500 and $600 depending on size and intricacy.

Felt Birds

This would be a delightful way to add some energy and movement to a blank space in a room.

Each bird is 6″ long, with a 4″ wingspan, and comes with a 15.5″ satin ribbon. (When the ribbon is doubled up, the bird hangs at a distance of about 7″.)

I just saw the
Think Tank designed by Renate Hattinger Keramik on
notcot.org, which led me to the Golden Heart pictured above. Absolutely one of the best things I’ve seen; my only wish is that it would a bit more affordable.
