Nativity by Valerie Atkisson

What’s this, you say? Well, it’s a nativity by Valerie Atkisson. Two flat pieces of steel connect in the middle to create the silhouette of the traditional story. Are you more excited about the fact that it is available in gold or that it stores flat? (Me: stores flat!)

Ghost Cameras

Snap! Ghost Cameras are handmade, glazed earthenware replicas of vintage cameras. They come in three variations: 1960, 1970 and 1980, modeled after the Argus C3, the Polaroid SX-70, and the Polaroid One Touch, respectively. I’ve only seen these online but recently have just had the pleasure of seeing the 1980 Ghost Camera at awesome East Village store Alphabets. Ghost Cameras are designed by Yellow Owl Workshop and handmade in Portland, Oregon.

Chalkboard Globe

We’ve posted plenty of map-themed items before; Haptic Lab Quilts, Magnetic Future Map, Places on Earth, but this will be the first where you can literally create your own world. The outlines of the continents are painted on, leaving you¬† on your own to create the division lines and territories. Undo the Louisiana Purchase. Create Jeff Land. Or draw some sea monsters. You get the idea.

30″ tall, 19” diameter globe.

On a side note, this could easily be a weekend diy project; buy a globe at a flea market and paint it.

Metal Heart with Spheric Sound

This metal heart ‘emits a soft spheric’ sound so that when you’re crying yourself to sleep on Valentine’s Day you’ll have some comfort. Just kidding. Forgo those lame boring valentine’s gifts (roses, candy, blah) for this little gift, because it’ll last a heck of a lot longer and it looks waaay better than any red/pink-plastic/cellophane-stuffed-bear/basket type of thing. Pair it with a sentimental note and you’re done*.

If you’re still looking for a gift, by the way, you can always take a gander at our Gift Guide. It’s chockfull of easy-to-browse thumbnails of almost everything that we’ve ever posted that could be a decent gift.

Mini Forest of Woods

This incredibly charming and handcrafted set of trees is currently sold out at the moment, but I couldn’t resist sharing them with you.

The Mini Forest of Woods is a nine piece set of various types of scrap wood turned into a forest. Every set is unique as each piece is turned from a different piece of scrap wood. The Mini Forest of Woods is a limited edition of 5 sets. Tallest tree is 7″.

Given that these are limited to editions of 5, I would definitely get in touch with the designer if you are interested in purchasing a set.

Alexander Girard Nativity Set

You’d have to be quite a fan to shell out $400 for this nativity, but hey, if you are, go for it… it’ll be a holiday highlight each year.

Alexander Girard amassed a huge collection of nativities, most of which he spent the last years of his life curating for his wing at the International Museum of Folk Art in Santa Fe. We thought it would be an appropriate homage to create a completely new nativity that is based on a Girard illustration that hangs in his sonís house.

– Non-toxic, child-safe inks
– Pieces 1″ (2.5 cm) to 7.75″ (19.5 cm) tall, Stable 11.75″ x 4″ x 8.75″ (30 cm x 10 cm x 22 cm)

Confetti System Pinatas

These are pretty fantastic and festive.–although if I paid $135 for a pi√Īata I wouldn’t want anyone to destroy it with a stick. These might be nice for a birthday or the upcoming holidays as decor.

Kathy Dalwood Concrete Figurines

Last week I found the website of Kathy Dalwood and sort of fell in love with her concrete figurines. She collects vintage porcelain and plaster figurines and recasts them in black concrete. Each figurine, originally so delicate and carefully painted, is now made of a rough industrial material, with bubbles and imperfections, and with the heavy block bases they have a definitive modern spin about them. Needless to say, I bought one (go here to see it in my home).

Visit Kathy’s blog to see how the figurines are made.

She also makes some lovely Urn Scupltures, architectural friezes and concrete planters, thought the planters are currently unavailable due to her manufacturer going out of business.

Prices range from £110-£350 depending on piece.
Keep in mind that shipping costs might be sort of high considering the weight.

Crayon Rabbit Sculpture

I’ve watched Donnie Darko and Sexy Beast, so the chance of this bunny being non-creepy is long gone*, but for anyone who appreciated the earlier post on Herb Williams’ crayon sculptures you might be interested to see a new item has been added to the mix.

A sculptor who ingeniously uses crayons as his medium, [Herb] Williams creates works that are not only strikingly beautiful but playfully allude to serious cultural icons as well. And don’t forget that unmistakably happy smell. This spirited bunny measures 17 1/2″ x 12″ x 12″ and is made of crayons and Fiberglas. Signed and dated.

Acrylic Trophy Deer Head

I know most of you are tired of the deer head trend, because really, who isn’t, but then again, I do like this acrylic slotted-together head by Science and Sons.

It’s flat packed, and parts are easily slotted. We’re thrilled to re-introduce this utterly cool work, cobranded by the artist and A+R. Each piece is numbered. -A+R
