Swivel Work Stool

If you prefer your bar seating to have a little more character, you’ll not want to ignore the Swivel Work Stool by Unionmade. Designed after vintage industrial stools, the heavy steel frame is powdercoated in Reed Green and supports a walnut swivel seat. If you’re not too fond of the color, the Fixed Work Stool in Pewter is a good alternative.

Holy Stool

This stool is a familiar riff on the Milking Stool by UM Projects we posted a few years ago, yet with this variation, the legs are a bit farther apart for stability. So, sit on it, put your feet up, or use it for drinks and books, and know that it won’t topple over easily. The legs are dipped in ultra-matte lacquer for a bright contrast.

Gus Modern Transit Bench

How’s this for an alternate (and affordable) version of the Nelson Platform Bench? This Transit Bench by Gus Modern has a slatted wood top with powder-coated, tubular steel legs, and the dimensions make it perfect for an entryway landing pad or a living area coffee table. For anyone who’d like to mix things up and not pay through the nose for a design classic, this bench would be a good bet; the black ash with black steel legs is especially sleek.

Nerd Chair

If the name’s not enough to make you look twice, take a close look at the seat and back join. There’s some pretty precise curves involved and a rather appealing humbleness in terms of scale and treatment. This chair used to be only available in the UK/Europe area, but now all of us in the states can order one without paying extra overseas shipping costs. Designed by David Geckeler for Muuto.

Principle Bench

If you tell me $500 isn’t a good price for this Principle Bench, a steel frame with an acacia wood seat and back, I won’t believe you. If you’ve spent any time on eBay or in antique or consignment shops searching for a bench, maybe you know that it’s not easy finding a long seat such as this with such a modern sensibility… that won’t fall apart after sitting on it a few times. Am I right, or am I right?

Arnold Circus Stool

I know you’re probably in holiday shopping mode, but calm down for a little bit to appreciate this Arnold Circus Stool. I’m not sure how it slipped under the radar, as it’s been around for a while. Not to worry though, there’s still time to congratulate ourselves for finding it now, and then figure out just where we’re going to put it before it arrives. Because at $120, this stool comes in a variety of colors and has varied uses: an extra seat, a side table in the living area or bedroom, or turn it upside down for a storage basket.

Bubble Stool

At first glance, this stool looks oh-so-cozy with its thick knitted wool cover, otherwise it’s just a normal pouf/stool. But wait, is that an air pump? Indeed, it is. The Bubble Stool is filled with air, thus eliminating extra foam or other fillers. So, fill it up when you need it, de-pouf it when you don’t. When deflated, it looks like it could be stored away like a blanket- that gives it extra points for small spaces where storage is at a premium.

Flip Around Stool/Table

Don’t choose between a stool or a table- have both with the Flip Around. For use as a stool, the table’s top post handle fits into the base for secure seating; for use as a catchall table top, simply flip the top over to utilize its curved lip to keep contents in their place. The top piece can also be used as a tray to carry things back and forth between rooms. Three functions in one piece is a win/win/win situation.

Rocket Stool

The well known Eero Aarnio designed this three-legged stool in 1995, and, as you can tell, it hints at his other work with its rounded (“plump“) seat and legs. Interestingly enough, the Rocket was originally designed for Eero Aarnio’s own kitchen, though it’d do just as well in other rooms. The solid wood stool is available in oak wood painted white, black or soaped, and in two different sizes, Rocket Stool ($435) and Baby Rocket ($300).

Vitra Tip Ton Chair

This solid plastic chair has a forward-tilt action that will help your health apparently: it straightens the pelvis and spine and thus improves circulation to the abdominal and back muscles. Whether that influences your decision to buy one, many, or none at all, I do have to say it has a nice silhouette that would work well in a dining room or office area. Plus, it’s stackable and comes in 6 different colors. On sale until October 24th.

Perch Barstool

Hmm, I don’t quite understand how the same barstool could cost roughly $150 more on one site than the other. Do you? One site has it on sale, so that explains a little discrepancy, but perhaps it’s not exactly the same barstool, or by the same designer/manufacturer, or maybe someone is smoking something somewhere and the profit margins were messed up. Either way, this teak and iron base barstool has that spindly-yet-sturdy look and would provide extra seating without taking up too much visual space.

Turn Stool

Stool, side table, ottoman, whatever function fits your needs, this solid Acacia wood stool will last through thick and thin. Cut out handles make it easier to shift around and an optional thick Felt Top (+$19) gives a softer surface for the backside.

Howard Stool

Guess what my favorite barstool is lately? Yep, it’s this guy, mostly because it takes up a minimal amount of visual space and still has a fair bit of personality. “The Howard” is an all-weather, stackable barstool available in 3 heights and 9 different colors. It looks super sharp, as you can see, but you’ll also be glad to hear that its ergonomic shape will help your posture as well. Too good to be true? Not if your budget fits the price tag.
