Spark Lounge Chair

This affordable (and colorful) lounge chair is from the same designer that did the Aeron® and Chadwick chairs (both task chairs for those of you that didn’t know already). Surprised? I am. With all the tilts and levers and stuff on the latter two, this chair seems quiet and unassuming in comparison, except for the color choices, of course. It’s lightweight (polypropylene) and stackable, which makes it a good choice for a multi-purpose space.

Designed by Don Chadwick.
Stacks six high.

Lamino Chair

Pretty much every time I walk by the Skandium Store near my flat I see this chair. It’s lovely in person, just as it seems in the photos, with quiet lines and impeccable craftsmanship, plus it’s comfortable (as all lounge chairs should be). Voted the Twentieth Century’s ‘Best Swedish Furniture Design’, it’s sure to be a piece that you won’t get tired of.

Dune Grande Lounge

This fiberglass shell chair looks like a mid century classic went through some kind of warp zone, doesn’t it? At just about 4 feet wide, it’ll not go unnoticed as a seating option, that’s for sure. And don’t fret if you’re short on space; there’s a slightly smaller (and less stretched) version available (shown below).

Dune Grande Lounge: $1,895.00 (49.25w x 34d x 24.5h inches)

Pianotable

You may be inviting your musical friends and family over more often if you had this dining table with a built-in electric piano. I have a feeling that food and drink may not mix well with electronic equipment, so I’m hoping that that the internal keyboard mechanism is shielded from the inevitable spilled wine resulting from an impromptu post-dinner rock session. Of course, very few of you would have these worries once you look at the price tag.

The Pianotable is made to order, available by contacting the designer at georgbohle@hotmail.com.

Indie Furniture

Indie Furniture certainly has hit a lot of the right targets with their new customizable furniture. Rather than selling a completed product, Indie Furniture provides universal shelving joints that ultimately require you to put together yourself with your own provided wood. The benefit of this is that you can customize your shelving to your exact needs, use any type of wood you desire, save a whole lot on shipping, and enjoy the task of putting together your own set of furniture. Customization is done through their online configurator which tells you final dimensions, how many connectors are needed, the cost of the connectors, and how many wood panels are needed—all in one convenient PDF! Brilliant I’d say.

Table Bench Chair Series

It’s three in one. Sam Hecht got the idea of combining several seating options while he was traveling on the Tokyo subway. A communal bench was the starting point, and lucky for us, this Table Bench Chair series is where he ended up. Traditional bent birch frames and solid oak slabs makes each piece seem worlds away from the commercial plastic benches we’re all familiar with, yet both might share the experience of slight discomfort if sat upon for long periods of time.

Bench (shown above): $3,020.00

Autoban Box Sofa

Yep, you guessed it, this sofa’s inspiration was a box. Really, it was. That, along with a bit of 1950s modernist aesthetic forms an altogether ideal sofa for the purist. Encased in Black Walnut or White Oak, the sofa’s beauty and austerity redeems any possible comfort shortcomings (it isn’t a sink-into/sprawl-out-on sort, is it?) and it won’t ever disappoint a proper sitting area. It’s safe to say that this is certainly an investment piece (pricing starts at around $6,500) and that it will remain so throughout the years.

Designers: Seyhan Özdemir & Sefer Çaglar of Autoban.
Oak or Walnut, upholstery.

Lucky Beam Bench

For those of you that are fans of New York City, you’ll appreciate that the Lucky Beam Bench was inspired by the I-beams on NYC subway platforms. For all you other non-fans, forget that bit and take a look at the colors available. Even if you’re not fond of the industrial look, the colors will hook you. The outdoor versions run a bit higher, but considering the benches will pretty much last forever, it could be a good investment.

Loll COCO Chair

We previously mentioned Loll’s fantastic Adirondack Chair, and are quite happy to announce their new COCO chair, a very Eames-inspired modern lounge chair available in six different colors. It’s made from 100 percent post consumer recycled plastic and weatherproof, so don’t be afraid to bring it outside now that spring’s right around the corner.

FLY easy chair

Indoor or outdoor, this chair has some style. The knitted fabric reminds me of the Slow Chair, but, of course, this chair is a little more angular to be mistaken for its sibling. The cantilevered seat makes me wonder how much ‘give’ it has when you sit in it; does it bounce a little perhaps?

Designer: Patrick Norguet
Available in Black, Green, Brown.
Dimensions: h:710mm, s:410mm, w:710mm, d:720/400mm

Kikkerland Folding Stool

This is one of my favorite designs ever. It’s a quite sturdy plastic stool that folds out in about 3 seconds. Quite ingeniously, the carrying handle pops out when folded back up. When living in my tiny New York apartment, it always amused me whenever I put it back in its storage place; the 4 inch gap in between the wall and the refrigerator. It supports up to 300 lbs and at $29, is well worth the price.

Dimensions: 21″ x 4″ x 15.25″

Bokja Vintage Bucket Chair

While the price of this chair might scare you more than the fabric does, it’s an excellent example of how a rather normal chair can become completely crazy with the right (or wrong) choice of fabric. Hoda Baroudi and Maria Hubri of Bokja Design use all sorts of fabrics to revitalize vintage finds, and if you’re not familiar with their work, it’s worth a glance just to see the variety of textiles. All pieces are handmade by traditional craftsmen, and the vintage textiles used are from Uzbekistan, central Asia, and other countries along the Silk Road. Take a look at Bokja’s products and believe me, you’ll certainly find inspiration (and courage?) for reupholstering any of your current threadbare furniture.
