Gus Modern Transit Bench

How’s this for an alternate (and affordable) version of the Nelson Platform Bench? This Transit Bench by Gus Modern has a slatted wood top with powder-coated, tubular steel legs, and the dimensions make it perfect for an entryway landing pad or a living area coffee table. For anyone who’d like to mix things up and not pay through the nose for a design classic, this bench would be a good bet; the black ash with black steel legs is especially sleek.

Nerd Chair

If the name’s not enough to make you look twice, take a close look at the seat and back join. There’s some pretty precise curves involved and a rather appealing humbleness in terms of scale and treatment. This chair used to be only available in the UK/Europe area, but now all of us in the states can order one without paying extra overseas shipping costs. Designed by David Geckeler for Muuto.

Principle Bench

If you tell me $500 isn’t a good price for this Principle Bench, a steel frame with an acacia wood seat and back, I won’t believe you. If you’ve spent any time on eBay or in antique or consignment shops searching for a bench, maybe you know that it’s not easy finding a long seat such as this with such a modern sensibility… that won’t fall apart after sitting on it a few times. Am I right, or am I right?

Perch Shelves

Dino Sanchez has a small collection of shelves that are classically constructed and assembled, and one of them is begging to organize a stack of cookbooks in your kitchen. Another one is wishing to hold your nightly stack of reading, as it has a little lamp attached. And the big one, that one wants to take on the hefty job of holding all those books, folders, and files on your desktop. A strategically placed shelf can make the difference between a cluttered corner and an organized room, and, if you’re going to buy a shelf, you might as well buy a nice one, right?

Tor Side Table

A handle on a side table just makes sense. After all, you have favorite spots around the house where you could use an extra surface to set a hot cup, or one of your various gadgets, and you don’t necessarily want dozens of tables cluttering up your minimal vibe, right? The Tor Side Table has a raised edge to prevent items sliding off easily and is made of powder coated aluminum with six different colors available.

Present Modular Shelving by MOCO x Furni

What do we have here? It looks like a modular shelving system, but it’s certainly unlike any you’ll find at a regular retailer. With a pair of brass plated rails, three solid walnut shelf elements, each “module” of the Present Modular Shelving will provide multiple storage functions to fit your needs. Use the box element as a simple container for emptying your pockets or as a frame for your favorite items. The rail is perfect for hanging skateboards, or with the hooks (included), hang up your jackets and scarves.

And, if you need further convincing, know that the Present Modular Shelving is the first MOCO x Furni product, a collaboration between MOCO LOCO and Furni, the Montreal-based design and lifestyle brand/manufacturer. Convinced that you could find a place for it in your own home? Watch the video below to see more and back the project over at Kickstarter.

Slate Mobile AirDesk

If your favorite working spot is anywhere other than a desk, you might just appreciate this mobile desk called Slate. It’s made from a block of pure, premium bamboo, which enables a lightweight, strong surface. A docking station and flush mouse pad gives your workspace increased function and, thanks to the air ventilation holes, your lap/laptop won’t be uncomfortably warm.

Arnold Circus Stool

I know you’re probably in holiday shopping mode, but calm down for a little bit to appreciate this Arnold Circus Stool. I’m not sure how it slipped under the radar, as it’s been around for a while. Not to worry though, there’s still time to congratulate ourselves for finding it now, and then figure out just where we’re going to put it before it arrives. Because at $120, this stool comes in a variety of colors and has varied uses: an extra seat, a side table in the living area or bedroom, or turn it upside down for a storage basket.

Diamond Stackable Table Trestles

If you reside in a European country, I’ll admit, you’ll have an easier time purchasing these table trestles. But don’t think shipping fees will stop those of us that live, say, in the Americas, from getting our grubby little hands on them. Each Diamond table trestle is stable, lightweight, and available in two widths: 55 cm and 70 cm. If you’re planning on buying a couple for a desk or dining table, I’d recommend the blue or orange for a pop of color- go bold!

Bubble Stool

At first glance, this stool looks oh-so-cozy with its thick knitted wool cover, otherwise it’s just a normal pouf/stool. But wait, is that an air pump? Indeed, it is. The Bubble Stool is filled with air, thus eliminating extra foam or other fillers. So, fill it up when you need it, de-pouf it when you don’t. When deflated, it looks like it could be stored away like a blanket- that gives it extra points for small spaces where storage is at a premium.

Block Table Cart

Tea carts and tray tables may seem to belong to an older generation, but this Block Cart from designer Simon Legald has just enough modern sensibility to make it appealing at any age. The wheels move in any direction, and the posts extend above the top surface to function as handles. Use it as an end table, bar cart, work/office caddy, or maybe even a tea or dessert cart if you have several guests over… so many possibilities.

Conrad Desk

A compact desk with a little storage is just what that disorganized corner of your home needs. Note that I used the word ‘little’ in conjunction with ‘storage’: this is a good thing. You don’t need much more than the essentials, as clutter tends to multiply when left untended, so this Conrad Desk by Gus Modern will do the job efficiently without taking up too much room. And, hey, since file folders are almost as necessary as a typewriter these days, you only need a slim drawer for those papers that aren’t suitable for electronic storage.

Flip Around Stool/Table

Don’t choose between a stool or a table- have both with the Flip Around. For use as a stool, the table’s top post handle fits into the base for secure seating; for use as a catchall table top, simply flip the top over to utilize its curved lip to keep contents in their place. The top piece can also be used as a tray to carry things back and forth between rooms. Three functions in one piece is a win/win/win situation.

Plunk Desk

Standing is better than sitting, blah, blah, blahโ€ฆ you’ve heard all about it, but you’re not about to change out your favorite desk for some kind of wonky contraption that screws up your whole nicely-designed-house/office vibe. Plus, you work from lots of different places, so it might not even make much of a difference anyways. Am I right?

Well, that’s just where the Plunk Desk fits in. It’s a portable, adjustable standing desk handcrafted from wood and aluminum, and, it fits into a custom bag for easy transport. Currently a Kickstarter project, you can pledge $395 to get the Plunk Desk at $100 off the retail price.
