Enevu CUBE Light

Why do you need a small LED light? Beats me, but judging by the product shots of the Enevu CUBE Light, I’m sure you’ll be able to find some uses. It’s splash-proof, so you can take it out by the pool or add it to your camping gear. There’s a color changing mode for those ‘mood’ settings you may or may not be fond of, as well as a hanging hook should you need it.

Bounce Shade by Karl Zahn

This light bears its name for obvious reasons. The adjustable light projects a beam onto a folded aluminum shade, which then bounces the light back towards its source. The large, sail-like shade seems to float in mid air, yet reality shows a thin chain that hangs from a single point in the ceiling. This complete separation of light source and shade allows for various placements- do have some fun with moving it around to figure out the best effect.

M Lamp

This little guy looks like he needs to star in a Pixar film, doesn’t he? Inspired by the archetypal miner’s lamps of 19th century, the M Lamp is powered by a rechargeable Lithium long-life battery, and if you’re asking how long is ‘long-life’ you’ll be happy to know that it is rated “to last 50,000 hours, for up to 2,000 charging cycles with no loss in performance.” Is that impressive, or what? A handle makes the M Lamp very portable, so you can move it around the home whenever you need an extra light.

Brick Lamp

This lamp is reduced down to a simple brick shape with no switch or cord. How do you turn it off? With magic! Just kidding, it’s nothing that mysterious, you just lay it flat. The concept of concealing and revealing is at work here, with the light turning on when you raise it onto its side. The side facets work as handles as well as creating a sturdy base with an ideal angle of light. See HCWDstudio’s Kickstarter video below for more.

Wald Plug Lamp

The Wald Plug Lamp is a floor lamp without the floor. Huh? It plugs directly into a wall socket, using the plug connection as its sole support. So, technically, I suppose it’s actually a wall light, but we’ll accept the categorization of a floor lamp because of its height. Might I point out how much easier this would be to install than a wall sconce? It could be a clever bedside or sofa-side option for those of you who currently rent (or for those who are habitually lazy and/or averse to installing light fixtures).

Adelman’s You Make It Pendant

Did you know that Lindsey Adelman has a new You Make It Pendant? Yes, indeed, and the whole kit is available at Grand Brass, just like the others. At $57.60, it’s a very affordable option for an interesting, industrial-modern pendant, and all you need is some elbow grease and a fair amount of patience to put it together.

IC S Pendant Light

Seeing as the Flos sale began yesterday (ends March 19), it’s particularly fitting to feature the IC S Pendant Light by Michael Anastassiades. The original inspiration for the IC collection was the skillful way in which a juggler spun a set of spheres around his/her body, and, indeed, it’s easy to feel the off-centered balance and slight tension of each lamp. There’s the suspension lamp, featured here, as well as the IC C/W Wall Ceiling Light, the IC F Floor Lamp, and the IC T1 High and IC T2 Table Lamp.

Switchmate

Now you can be really, truly lazy, because Switchmate automates your standard light switch, no screwdrivers required. Snap Switchman over your existing switch, pair it with your smartphone, and then turn your lights on and off without ever leaving the sofa. When you do eventually leave the house, you can turn on your lights before you arrive home, thus avoiding any dark entryways (and potential tripping hazards). It’s held on by magnets, so it’s just about the easiest installation you’ll ever have, and, if you’re a renter, you can simply snap off your Switchmates to take them with you when you move.

I Ricchi Poveri – Silver Bzzzz

What’s with Ingo Maurer and flying things? Who cares? Because pretty much all of it is amazing, and that includes this table lamp with a delicate handmade silver-coated aluminum dragonfly resting on a bulb. Prepare yourself for a price tag punch, though, as it’s not cheap (you should know this as ‘handmade’ was in front of ‘silver-coated’ and ‘aluminum dragonfly’) and you might just have to put it in your wish list folder until you get a spectacular raise. Oh, and if you really like the whole insects-on-a-light-bulb lighting option, do be sure to take a look at Ingo Maurer’s Johnny B. Butterfly Pendant Light as well as his JB Schmetterling Pendant Light.

Beam Smart Projector

Screw the Beam Smart Projector into a light socket and then use your smartphone to watch movies, play games, or share content. That’s right, it’s a projector built into a compact casing that fits into a light socket. Maybe you’ll put it above the kitchen island to watch a food prep video directly on the counter, or above the dining table to play games, or maybe you’ll prefer to place it on a table (with included power cable) for projecting onto the wall or ceiling for movies and videos. You can also program Beam to run certain ‘if this then that’ rules, which opens up a lot of fun options for you and your family. Check it out over at Kickstarter.

Little Bishop Ceiling Hook

Here’s a worthy pursuit: design a better option for placing light fixtures. Yes, you could call an electrician and spend hundreds of dollars. You could also buy a cheap brass hook and knot your cord’s fixture to keep it in place. Neither are ideal, but both are entirely feasible. Now you can add one more possibility to the mix. The Little Bishop Ceiling Hook aims to provide a hook specifically for cable hung pendant lights. This hook is shaped and cast by hand, with an elegant solution to wrap the cord around itself for a seamless installation. It might not fit every lighting situation, but for more temporary solutions on pendant light placement, it’s seems like a smart choice.

Daphine Floor Lamp Classic Reading Lamp

What is that floor lamp that keeps showing up in Vincent Van Duysen’s interiors? Why, I was wondering the same thing, as the name wouldn’t quite make itself known amongst the other many products committed to memory. It’s the Daphine Floor Lamp Classic Reading Lamp by Tommaso Cimini, and, yes, I kind of want one too. In production since 1975, the Daphine Terra Classic has a small shade and delicate joints offset by a chunkier base. Its light spreads overly wide, and is adjustable in two steps. While I’d opt for the black (as Van Duysen does), there’s also a white and nickel-plated option.
