Adaptable Table

Update: $499, down from $1,200.00. Some of the color options are sold out, but you’re saving $500 (at DWR, no less), so you can’t complain too much.

Well, the more persnickety among us will be thrilled to learn that this table has multiple color configurations. That’s right, you can mix materials as you wish. Do you want a white top with oak legs? An all grey table? All black? A white table with a green apron? No problem, TAF Architects has seen to those and several more options. 64 options, to be exact. Now, the issue is, just which color combination do you want? (Personally, I like the black top with oak legs.)

JACK Table Legs

Table legs sold separately are always a good bet as you’re able to change out the surface to whatever suits your fancy. Plywood, wood, stone, glass, you name it, you can alter your desk/work top to whatever you want. These JACK table legs were named after the game jacks (reference there for you young things that have no idea) and will look excellent with whichever table top you prefer. The JACK legs are available in three finishes: Black, White, and shot blasted aluminum finish. And, if you’d like the table top included, there’s the complete Jack Table as well (custom sizes available, see website for more info).

Moorish Mosaic Table

Remember the Lagarta Stool? This table is from the same designer, Ana Mestre, and utilizes the same natural agglomerate cork, except this time the cork is printed with an intricate Moorish pattern inspired from the historical tiles of the city Beja.

Minimalista Console Table

Here’s another super minimal console table to consider. A stainless steel frame supports a walnut, graphite-on-oak, or honed stone top. There’s not much else to get in the way visually, hence the ‘minimalista’ name tag. And, if the $449 price tag seems a tad too steep, don’t forget the Gear Console ($249).

LAX Wall Mounted Table

We all know small kitchens and dining areas can be a challenge, so how about removing some table legs to make things easier? This table by MASH Studios is just about as minimal as you can get, especially if you forgo chairs. There’s a “uniquely engineered steel mounting system” that assures it’ll remain on the wall and, of course, there’s no visual clutter.

Gear Console Table

You would be hard pressed to find a console table more simple than this. Heavy duty steel with super thin legs means it almost disappears, yet it’s sturdy enough to take a few stacks of your massive art and photography books.

Covet Desk

A glass top desk often appears sharp and sleek, but most lack drawers which can be a little annoying when it comes to desk miscellany. This desk has a drawer plus a storage solution built into its frame which solves that ‘where-do-I-put-my-paperclips-and-files’ question without sacrificing the clean look of a glass work surface. Available in Oak or Walnut.

Rustic Storage Console

I’ve been looking for a table for my entry for things like mail, keys and other remnants from a long day of work. At the time, I wasn’t able to find anything, so I had something made by a local craftsman for under $300. It’s a nice sturdy piece, but it doesn’t have drawers, and that would definitely keep that area tidier than it is looking now.

This piece by WestElm is actually almost exactly the same size, but it has the drawers that I’m now wishing my custom console had. Constructed from solid mango wood, the piece has a nice muted look.

Filipp Walnut Coffee Table

It looks like a large block of walnut, and probably feels like it too (it weighs almost 100 lbs), but there’s something else about this coffee table that makes it special. It hides two large drawers for tucking all manner of living room paraphernalia- remotes, magazines… and all that other stuff that create clutter. Be forewarned that this needs assembly, but that shouldn’t be too much of a surprise considering the price.

P7 coffee table

In terms of coffee tables, how many decent ones are at or under the $300 mark? Not many, that’s for sure, especially if ‘decent’ means aesthetically pleasing to the eye. This solid ash base was inspired by the peace symbol*; the designer deconstructed it to form 7 intersecting triangles.

Gus* Stump Coffee Table

How do you feel about faux-bois woodgrain? Terrific or tacky? I vote for terrific in this case, as the pattern is grooved into the sides and top of a white coffee table. It adds an organic feel- “updated organic modern” would be the label if you’re in need of classification. Perhaps even more exciting than the table is the handy storage box (Stump Storage Box, pictured below) which provides a great place for all sorts of things- toys, blankets, pillows, etc.- and could double as a side table (or stool?) if need be.

Frame Coffee Table

I’ve been thinking about changing out my coffee table for a more appropriate size, and this caught my eye as a possible option. A walnut top and a brushed steel base makes it fully appropriate for a modern living space, and it’s simple enough it wouldn’t take center stage (important when you have a lot of other stuff fighting for attention). Plus, there’s three different sizes to choose from, which gives a custom feel without a custom price.
