Lounge Chairs

Capsule Collection by Ziglam & Brook

I fell hard and fast for Deadgood when I first saw their Love Collection, and I might just have a serious crush on the Capsule Sofa and Chair. The colorful buttons and graduated tones add just the right amount of playfulness… might be the perfect thing to knock the serious edge off a room.

Gus Modern GT Rocker

Inspired by retro car interiors, this rocker hits the right notes for modern seating. (It’d sound even better if it was just a tiny bit less price-wise.)

Moooi Dickies Chair by Anthony Kleinepier

Seeing how beanbags have become quite acceptable in the living area, why not a beanbag-ish chair that’s shaped like a… well, you know. This is the first I’ve seen it on sale, but as noted, the price is limited to stock on hand.

With the Dickies, Anthony Kleinepier likes to raise more questions than answers, so the expectations and codes of our daily environment become vague. This makes people wake up to the fact that they are entitled to an interpretation of their own. It makes you think it is time again to use all our senses and not only believe in what we see. The Dickies Chair create a casual contemporary look.

Lazy Bastard Armchair by Bertjan Pot for Montis

What a Lazy Bastard. If you bought this chair, you could say that all the time, and if someone got mad and started to punch you, you could say, “Wha?! I was talking about the armchair you’re sitting in!! WTF?!”…Wouldn’t that be fun? Basically a bean bag on legs, this armchair looks super comfortable because it is. May I recommend the black color instead of the suspiciously-seventies-inspired pea green color?

Available by special order only.

Quilt Sofa and Armchair

As beautiful (and comfortable) as this collection is, the price just plain hurts. When will the Bouroullec brothers do an affordable line of wonderful items? (Now, if you’ve got 7 and 13 grand allocated for a chair and sofa, respectively, then good for you, but I’d rather not hear about it.)

Designer: Ronan Bouroullec and Erwan Bouroullec
Available colors: Navy Blue, Black, Pale Grey, Red

Sofa: $13,420.00 (L 78.7″ x D 47.2″ x H 27.6″)

Monopod Chair by Jasper Morrison

On Jasper Morrison’s site, this chair is listed as made from “precision milled blocks of recycled wine-bottle corks” and upholstered in leather. It’s also noted as a limited edition, but I found no mention of that on the retail sites.

Jasper Morrison’s Monopod is a sculptural piece, vaguely reminiscent of primordial stone or wooden objects. The Monopod stands sturdily, tapering with an elegant curve to a wedge-shaped backrest. As a small visitor armchair, the Monopod is a companion for sofas and larger armchairs, and in public areas thanks to its solidity can be used in lounges and reception areas. The structure of the armchair, with its plastic shell upholstered on the inside means that the Monopod retains its precise shape even if used for lengthier periods and is very comfortable.

materials: polyethylene carcass, polyurethane foam seat and backrest upholstery.

Also available through here, but priced at $2,700.00.

Bottoni Slim

I love the slim arms on the Bottoni line by Marcel Wanders. It really adds an edge of sophistication.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Bottoni collection, the concept is that you can change the look of a piece by switching out “plaids” by attaching them to the buttons. Plaids can be attached to each model using Buttons and are available in 5 unique patterned fabrics.

The Bottoni collection is available in three different models: standard, slim and shelf. You can order each model in four different sizes.

Woolly Chair

This is obviously* more of a ‘hey, look at this’ than a ‘omg-this-will-make-your-life-better’ post, though the description will have you believing otherwise.

Jason Miller creates something prehistoric in the woolly chair, a seat that that furniture will ponder and feel ancestrally drawn to. Seemingly upholstered by a mythical Beastie (the fur-like creature, of fairy origins, whose sole purpose is to comfort), it is decadent and playful, a Jason Miller standard.

Risom Rocker

Jens Risom, perhaps best known for his Lounge Chair (you know, the one with woven straps) has designed an upholstered rocker that looks decidedly mid century yet feels current somehow (perhaps that’s the magic of classic Danish modernism?).

The Risom Rocker (2009) has a nine-button tufted back; a nod toward the classic Danish modern aesthetic that can be found in all of Risom’s work. Made in U.S.A.

* A high back supports your head while you rock.
* The armrests are sculpted for comfortable support.
* A hidden counterweight in the front rail helps ensure a smooth, deep rock.

Materials: Solid walnut frame; Maharam Milestone fabric, 78% post-industrial recycled polyester, 15% polyester, 7% nylon.

Design House Stockholm Cloud Chair

Ooo, I remember seeing this years(?) ago, perhaps in its initial design phase, and being utterly disappointed that I couldn’t post it because it wasn’t available to purchase yet. Now it is, thankfully, though I’m sure it has been for some time and I just missed it. Please take note that the chair adjusts to each person’s comfort; the seat becomes the back and vice versa depending on the angle of recline you prefer.

Lisa Widén’s idea to create the Cloud chair was born sitting on an airplane looking down at the clouds below. The thought of being able to lounge around on soft and fluffy clouds inspired her to create this soft, comfy and playful upholstered easy chair with a black metal support frame. The Cloud chair is easily adjustable, meaning that the seat can become the back support and vice versa. This enables everyone, regardless of height or size, to find their own favorite position.

Parlour Chair from CB2

Does anyone have parlours anymore? I know I don’t, but I guess that doesn’t stop me from appreciating this little chair.

Fresh tangerine slubby weave is no slouch on bona fide living room chair inspired by our thing for Danish design. Barrel arms curve in a warm minimalist hug that looks great from all angles. Clean tapered back offsets deep comfy cushion.

Loop Chair by Willy Guhl

I want this outdoor chair so bad I can’t see straight.

The corresponding Loop Table fits neatly inside the chair’s frame for storage.”

I’ve meant to post this ages ago. Not only does this armless rocker look incredibly relaxing, it’s also lovely to look at. Plus, with space big enough to curl up on, it’s a natural choice for a living room lounge chair.

Agung Chair

I’ve no idea why the retailer in Europe has it marked so much lower than the US one, but this chair is quite lovely. Maybe it’s not the best choice for anyone short on floorspace, but its curves certainly command a long glance and look to hold a person comfortably.
