Dining and Side Chairs

Shadow Chair

This chair at first appears to balance only on its front legs. Clever.

A chair that integrates shadow into its structure…At first glance it is a simple chair that seems to defy gravity by standing upright while only having two front legs, but on closer inspection the shadow is part of the chair and made from steel, which is attached to a metal frame built inside the chair. Spindle Chair

Update: on sale for $49.00…snap ’em up while quantities last.

$99 for a sturdy white chair…not bad. (It reminds me a little of the Mademoiselle Rocking Chair, for obvious reasons.)

Modern spindle plays with scale in fresh white lacquer. It’s everything a chair should be: architecture, function, simplicity…and it makes us smile. Immediately at home with metal, woods, minimal, heirlooms. Eco-friendly solid rubberwood.

Supernatural Armchair

The Armchair version of the Supernatural Chair is way more of a head turner with those curvy arms…super nice.

“this new stackable chair has a structure that is the result of an evolution, more than of a design process. It represents a new vision of form, generated by digital data, resulting in a chair to be used every day, slender, lively and healthy. The liquid, organic nature of its form combines the beauty of the human anatomy with the most advanced process of industrialization of 21st-century polymers.” -Ross Lovegrove

Prince Charles Side Chair

Messing with a good thing can sometimes be disastrous, but other times it’s interesting and strange in a good way, which is the case of this interpretation of the Eames classic.

Modernica’s design studio has collaborated with artist Peter Shire to design the Prince Charles Chair based on the company’s Case Study Fiberglass shell chair and playfully named after the originator of the design, Charles Eames…The Prince Charles chair is an elegant and ironic juxtaposition – past and present. It is an innovative combination of two recognizable styles artfully embracing 300 years of furniture design into a single chair. This, along with the chair’s Queen Anne-like legs, which look like broken violin cut outs, prove opposites attract.

Scandia Series

I’m a little bit in love with this series by Hans Brattud.

The iconic Scandia Series was designed by Hans Brattud in 1957. During the 1970’s the factory in Norway burned down and was never rebuilt, therefore, putting Scandia out of production. In 2001, Norwegian manufacturer, Fjord Fiesta brought the series back. Working closely with Brattrud himself, they made sure that every detail of the original design was perfected.

Mr. Impossible Chair and Table #28

This Mr. Impossible chair is destined to become an iconic piece; its shape and comfort takes the humble plastic material into an elevated design form. Also, the other items pictured in the room view are worth a mention: the ribbed aluminum Table #28 is surprisingly versatile as its angular form provides shelves and can be used indoors or out, the Parametreā„¢ AccordiOn Screen would be perfect for a room divider as shown, and the String 10 Light is still (and perhaps will always be) such a stellar choice for accent lighting.

An inviting, durable, and comfortable chair, Mr. Impossible combines sophisticated design with advanced plastic processing. The transparent structure and the translucent colored seat are seamlessly welded together. Made by Kartell of polycarbonate.

Cherish Chair

I’ve never felt all that excited about the color yellow, yet on this chair and a few other recent posts (like this lamp and the embroidery on this bedding) it seems to be growing on me…it just might be a great color accent for your otherwise monochrome room (if you have one, that is).

Reminiscent of a cherished design from the past, this solid timber chair displays a pared down silhouette – a perfect complement for today’s contemporary settings. Available in yellow lacquer.

Harvest Table

The room settings above perfectly illustrate how combining two distinct styles can add interest and character to a home…I love the Shaker style table paired with the more industrial Navy Side Chair or the mid century Saarinen Tulip™ Stools.

This table has a sturdy and symmetrical form that’s defined by its functionality. Simple and austere, two drop leaves increase or decrease the footprint depending on immediate needs. Wooden pegs fold out to support the leaves when they’re raised and act as stoppers when the leaves are folded down. The modern maxim that form follows function was phrased by the Shakers as, “beauty rests on utility,” which is an expression found in Shaker literature. This reference to beauty does not imply ornament or decoration, both of which the Shakers avoided for fear of encouraging the sin of pride. Rather, this beauty is inherent to a useful object, and “that which has in itself the highest use possesses the greatest beauty.”

Svedese Fortune Chair

I’m not sure what type of Swedish fortune shall befall you if you should happen to purchase this chair, but if you buy 6 of them, you can save 15%, and if you order by September 16 you’ll also get free shipping, so that’s a sort of fortune, isn’t it?

The Fratelli Tominaga, designers of our Coco Chair, discovered the 40-year-old prototype for the Svedese Chair (pronounced svee-day-see) in the kitchen of a home in Udine, Italy. Still in fine condition, the chair appeared to be Swedish in origin but was constructed in Italy, although the brothers were never able to find a record of the designer. The Tominagas have brought the Svedese Chair back into production, maintaining the solid hardwood frame, the seat back’s distilled folk form and updating the upholstery in elegant, hardworking Danish wool. The result is a mid-century design reimagined for the 21st-century. Assembly required.

Mechano Chair

Apparently the toy called Meccano is pretty much the same as Erector Sets which makes a whole lot of sense.

designed by andre klauser for thorsten van elten, the mechano chair was more than likely infuenced by the popular british toy with a similar name. made of durable powder coated steel, the chair is available in colorful blue, red, white, or yellow. we could easily see these for use in cafes or as an accent piece.
