Acrylic Trophy Deer Head

I know most of you are tired of the deer head trend, because really, who isn’t, but then again, I do like this acrylic slotted-together head by Science and Sons.

It’s flat packed, and parts are easily slotted. We’re thrilled to re-introduce this utterly cool work, cobranded by the artist and A+R. Each piece is numbered. -A+R

A Field Guide To Weeds, Kim Beck

A little bit of art in an unexpected place…

Synopsis: A Field Guide to Weeds masquerades as a 19th century pocket guide, but a guide in which the weeds themselves have taken over. Beck’s innovative project uses the physical form of the book as a metaphor for a crack in the city sidewalk: printed in luscious five-color printing, the common dandelion, pigweed, and poison ivy—the very plants we ignore, step over, ignore, dig up, or scrupulously avoid—creep out of the gutter, up pages, and overrun the book. Multiple silhouettes overlap and repeat, drawing the reader’s attention to the overlooked. The book features a brown silk ribbon marker.

Edition 1500
17.5 x 11.8 cm.

Cellule

Check out this modular lattice wall: it can be mounted indoors or out and can expand as needed. The only catch is that it hasn’t been manufactured yet (I know, sorry) and will need a minimum amount of people to fund the project in order for it to become reality. So, if you’re interested, take a look at their site.

Borne out of the limitations of traditional wood slat lattice too large for downtown condominiums and apartments, Cellule is snapped together to allow climbing plants to grow in any complex urban space. At 183mm x 183mm (7.20” x 7.20”), it can quickly cover wall surfaces but is small enough to fit most environments and obstacles. Each module has mounting features for cable ties to attach to railings and a generous hole for screwing into wood, drywall, siding, brick, or concrete. Made from UV stabilized polypropylene, Cellule can be used indoors or outdoors and is fully recyclable. -joydevivre.org

sold in sets of 9 modules and caps. Mounting hardware is not included.

fotoflōt

Not sure if you’ve heard of fotoflōt yet, but I recently received a sample (fall tree scene above) and am pretty pleased with the quality and appearance. I’m planning on switching it out to a personal photo once I decide on which one, but I thought I’d share with you in the meantime how it looks on a wall. It’s nice that no glass or frame is needed, giving more of a modern stream-lined look, and the magnetic attachment means you can easily cover up unsightly electrical boxes, as some people have done. You can use any of your online images from an existing account (like picasa, kodak gallery, etc.) or you can upload them directly into fotoflot’s site to create your image.

Translation

You always run a risk with displaying poetry, but maybe you can get away with it if you’re smart. (Smart, as in, clever and prepared, because you know someone will ask you, ‘Can you tell me more about this person Pablo Neruda?’ and it’d be best to have a short answer like, ‘Oh, he was just one of the greatest and most influential poets of the 20th century, winning the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1971 and known for his love poems, surrealist poems, historical epics, and overtly political manifestos. Duh!’)

Manufactured from self-adhesive film color, cut out with precision, these wall ornaments are equipped with an adhesive especially developed to remain removable for several years and to allow their removal without leaving residues. Thanks to their transparent film of installation, wall ornaments are also easy to position and to install. Installs on just about any wall, glass or mirror.

reads: ‘How is the translation of their languages arranged with the birds? How do I tell the turtle that I am slower than he? How do I ask the flea for his championship stats? Or tell the carnations
that I’m grateful for their fragrance?’

Official Ballot Wall Art

Since today is the inauguration for our next president, I thought it only appropriate to post one of many, many items commemorating the event.

This oversized ballot was printed specifically for the old-fashioned, pull-lever voting machines used in New York City. These hulking gray machines have been in commission since 1962 and after 46 years of service, are slated to go into retirement this year. We are fortunate to have a limited number of these official, uncut, unused ballots. Sections of the ballot feature voting instructions and a full list of candidates and parties.

Crayon Sculptures by Herb Williams

Whoa, talk about wall art. These sculptures take the favorite drawing tools to a new level…now, if only we all had a few (or several, rather) extra grand lying around…

Most of us have outgrown our Crayolas by the time we hit puberty. Happily, Herb Williams never did. A sculptor who ingeniously uses crayons as his medium, Williams creates works that are not only strikingly beautiful but playfully allude to serious cultural icons as well. There’s also that unmistakably happy smell, of course, and a palette that can’t help but pop. Signed by the artist on verso, dated and titled with edition numbers. Cleat-mounted for flush wall hanging.

Mod Op Art White Wreath

Shoot, apologies for not finding this at the beginning of the holiday season…but hey, if you get it now you’ll have it for next year. It’s perfect for those of you that like decorating for the holidays but don’t necessarily go for the pine needles and cones…plus, as the retailer suggests below, it could work as a wall-art type of thing year round.

Who needs pine boughs (and don’t get me started on dried flowers)… This mod wreath works year round on the door, above the sink, on in the foyer (oh, and try using in on a table with some pillar candles in the center, it’s pretty fab). Powder coated steel. 16″D

Radiometer

This might be a thoughtful gift for anyone interested in science-y type stuff.

Invented in the late 1870s by chemist Sir William Crookes, a Radiometer is part science project, part conversation piece. Housed inside a glass bulb with a partial vacuum, the four vanes of the Radiometer are attached to a delicate stem, which rotates when it senses the presence of light. The brighter the light, the faster it spins. The bulb is perched on a thin glass stand that evokes both a chemistry lab and a wine glass. Place one on your desk, on the living room coffee table or even on the kitchen window sill, and it will offer quiet meditative movement as the room’s light changes and shifts. Made in Germany.

KUSA

While this object might be a little off-the-beaten-path of gifts to give, you can pretty much guarantee that no one else will give the same thing (unless they read this site, of course).

This soothing art object is reminiscent of tall rice plants swaying in the breeze. Place it in your entryway and it will gently shake it’s head to the right and left as people pass by.
