Paper AK47 Kit

If you’re thinking about writing in because you’re offended by us posting a paper gun, go right ahead, but please (pretty please) do so after considering the designer’s intent.

London-based Martin Postler considers the aesthetics and lethal appeal of the Awtomat Kalaschinkowa—a.k.a. an AK-47—and by doing so, highlights the darker side of iconic design. Take away its original functional intent by rendering this death machine in paper, and the focus shifts to the power of form, and all that’s implied with it. Part of Postlerferguson’s Death Machine series, the Paper AK-47 was glittered, graffiti’d and garnished by respected street artists for the well-received Paper Wars exhibit in London this summer. Now, if only the world’s wars could be solved with a bit of paper, craft glue and a pack of colored Sharpies.

  • Not recommended for people under age 18.
  • Recommended for experienced crafters.
  • Construction time depends on handcrafting abilities.
  • Does not contain glue and cutter.
  • 5 sheets in a plastic bag, incl. instruction poster

Crabes-Langoustes & Manta Ray Chair

By the same designer of the
Mirave & Miru Mirrors, these crazy miniature chairs are covered with soft animals, or to be more precise, crabs (crustaceans) and manta rays (vertebrata). While altogether bemusing, it’s odd that it should only be used for decorative purposes…I’d like to see how someone would instruct a kid to ‘see and not touch’ one of these. That being said, of course I can see how these chairs would be solely an objet d’art for a collector.

Display Domes

As a self-described minimalist, I usually don’t like the idea of allowing room for trinkets and such, but it is rather unrealistic to think that in your life you aren’t going to acquire some mementos along the way. I like how Marlon and Jace use display domes (as seen in their Apartment Therapy home tour) to create distinct display areas without making the space look cluttered.

Ernst Gamperl Vessels

I’m completely in love with these vessel-like shapes by Ernst Gamperl. Taken from trees that have naturally fallen due to effects of time, each one is meticulously carved from wet wood as it dries in order to expose the grain in a new way and form. The detail is really quite amazing, and pulls wood from an otherwise normal material into an extraordinary art piece. If I am ever lucky enough to own one I would honestly consider it a prized possession.

Circular patterns carved into [Gamperl's] sculptures follow ancient Sufi customs and are deep synchronicity with the nature of the raw material itself. After the pieces have been moulded, waxed and polished into their finished shape, those same sculptural objects, appear to highlight the life of the grain and the ineffable force of nature which, in Gamperl’s case, has withstood the test of time.

Pricing starts at $546.00 approx. and go up to $7,700.00 (approximately).
