Stacked Paperback Wallpaper

Tracey Kendall’s paperback wallpaper will make you look like a bookworm on some serious performance-enhancing drugs. And who doesn’t want that? This would be spectacular in a small nook or a small room; you’d have your own instant haphazard library. Or, best idea yet, put this wallpaper at the back of your bookshelves, and voilà! you’re done. (Sort of similar to the Genuine Fake Bookshelf Wallpaper, except maybe a tiny bit better because of the color perhaps?)

Mr. Skull just got fancy with bronze flock on a incredibly strange color-changing background. It’s super expensive but would look nice in a small powder room or entryway.

Cutler Townhouse Bathroom

In the Cutler Townhouse by Murdock Young Architects there seems to be a rug on the wall. At first, I had a distinct ‘ew’ response, but after looking at it for a little while, it seems to be growing on me. Maybe the green texture has more of a living wall look? Whether you like rug-on-a-wall idea or not, the application of such a distinct texture on a smaller area certainly adds a lot of interest, so it’s something to think about if you want to kick up your space a notch.

Popham Design Tiles

Handmade tiles usually aren’t the sort of thing I like, but these by Popham Design are so graphically strong I can’t help but like them.

popham design brings a modern design sensibility to the tradition of Moroccan cement tiles. Our tiles are made by hand by skilled artisans in our Marrakech factory. The designs take their aesthetic cue from our life in Morocco and the things that inspire us…Grouped into four collections – scribbles + loops, classics + twists, flora + fauna, and plain + shapely – the patterns within each are designed to be flexible so that the same tiles can be arranged in numerous layouts. In conjunction with our color palette, popham design tiles encourage creativity. “Have fun and show us what you can do,” they seem to say. popham design tiles are suitable as wall and floor coverings for residential and commercial environments – and appropriate for both interior and exterior applications.

Wall Murals

So, ever since seeing the photo (taken by Debi Treloar) of this bed (in Studio Ilse’s 661 london road project), I’ve been a little obsessed with finding cobalt blue sheets and perhaps taking on the task of adding a wall mural somewhere in my home. While I have had absolutely no luck in finding the sheets (it’s apparently impossible*), there are quite a few wall mural sources online.

Surface View, which is perhaps the most entertaining, has a large image collection along with a snazzy ‘see in room’ option where you get to see your selected image as a mural, window blind or canvas art (see upper right photo). There’s also Murals Your Way which has what looks to be a decent brick wall and some other stuff worth considering. My personal favorite is the Galaxy mural wall paper (shown lower right) from designyourwall.com. They also have a nice bamboo forest wallpaper that could be nice in a powder room or something.

Is that enough to get you started mural-wise? Any other good links, let me know and I’ll add them.

*To the first person who finds a cobalt sheet set in queen size (thread count ~300, available online from a US, Canada, or UK store), I will send you a handmade card as thanks…and maybe something else too.

Plywood Walls

I’ve been seeing a few modern interiors of late choosing plywood instead of drywall as interior room walls. I’m not sure how cost effective it is, especially considering it all depends on the type of grain you choose, but I do have to say I’m liking the warmth and pattern it gives to a room, especially when contrasted with the dark floor as shown on right.

Palihouse Hotel

Last night I was at a party in Hollywood and ofcourse, rather than socializing, I was making mental notes of the interior selections. I really liked the casual feel of the place. Probably the most interesting selection was the ‘wallpaper’ above the mantle. From afar, it looked like a flocked, mustard colored wallpaper, but upon closer inspection, the wall was actually cork, and appeared to be hand-stamped with a pattern in silver paint.
