Barstools

Drifted Bar Stool L

I did promise to feature all decent barstools, didn’t I? This time you’ll be very happy with the price tag. Norwegian Lars Beller Fjetland created the Drifted series of stools after finding pieces of old cork washed upon the shore. Cork is a comfortable seating material with a natural water resistance, so it would be ideal for a kitchen or bar area. The oak frame has a traditional influence which gives the design a friendly countenance.

Coleman Stool

Barstools can be tricky. The truly impressive ones seem to be quite expensive, and the decent ones aren’t cheap. So, what do you do? You keep your eyes out for certain designs that are worth spending a tiny bit more than you want. We’ll count the Coleman Stool as one of those, as it has thin, geometric solid steel legs with a handmade concrete seat. It’s suitable for indoors or outside, and there several good color options- black or white for the base and a seven seat colors.

Stool 7 from STANDSEVEN

Two legs balanced with a looped sort of kickstand creates this visual trick of a barstool from STANDSEVEN and architect/designer David Adjaye OBE. It’s made from sustainable, recycled metals and, if you need further temptation, there’s an ethical intention thrown in as well. Each stool pays for one Ebola response kit for a family unit in Sierra Leone. You read that right, you can own this marvelous barstool and brag about helping end Ebola. That’s a win/win situation right there. (You can also donate directly to Doctors Without Borders or UNICEF.)

Mater Space Stool

More lovely furniture on sale? Yes, please. With ever-so-thin legs, these handcrafted stools are sort of stunning. We first posted these stools back in 2010, and, of course, they need some updating in the pricing field. However, do keep in mind they’re currently on sale, so you will save a tiny bit should you choose to splurge for your bar or countertop area. The Space Stools are crafted from premium oak (FSC certified) with sustainable and socially responsible methods. Be sure to check out the Aluminum version too, as it has more of a futuristic feel ($950 $760).

Pal Barstools

Well, aren’t these a sight for sore wallets? At $199 for the ash, grey, yellow or black barstool, and even less at $149 for the smaller stool, the Pal collection over at Hem hits the right price point. They’re easy to assemble, lightweight, and sturdy. Plus, for a fun fact, the curved legs were inspired by skateboard-making techniques. The circular metal bracket adds strength as well as a spot to rest your feet.

Sawkille Co. Stools

Finding beautifully made barstools with a pared-down aesthetic is not an easy task, and that’s exactly why the stools from Sawkille Co. stand out. A little Shaker influence is apparent, as these hand-crafted wood pieces draw from a “farmhouse modern aesthetic” that designer Johan Meyer strips down for a more modern result with pure, clean lines. Sawkille Co. has its headquarters and showroom in Rhinebeck, NY, so if you’re ever passing through, you’d be crazy not to stop and take a look.

SR Ranger Stools

These stools by Scout Regalia have storage space underneath the seat, which give them a schoolhouse sort of look and feel. They’re made of white oak and powder coated steel, so if they were put in a room full of crazy kids they’d probably come out looking just fine at the end of the day. Sprig Bar Stool

I’ve been a big fan of Council ever since they first hit the design scene, so it’s no surprise this Sprig Bar Stool has shot to the top of my favorite barstool list. A powder-coated steel frame will ensure durability, while a subtle angle at the seat back and front makes for comfortable seating. The overall minimal shape has a stainless steel footrest to make it a little more special, and you’ll be happy to note the barstool can be used indoors or outside.

Tripod Stool

Like the look of this Tripod Stool? You’re in luck, as it’s on sale until tomorrow, according to its description. Oh, and don’t get too attached to the wooden top without considering the Marble Top version, as you might like a different material thrown into the mix. Oh, and be sure take a look at the Tripod Table, also able to be used as a short stool, which at $146 (again, sale lasts until tomorrow) is one heck of a bargain.

Gordon Stool

Yes, you could go the super modern route when choosing your barstools, or you could pick a softer, quieter option like the Gordon Stool. It could easily work with traditional or modern pieces, thanks to its no-fuss, ladder-like metal frame. The wood seat and feet are available in a natural (oak) finish and a lighter whitewash finish.

Tractor vs. Metro Barstool

Hmm, these two stools are very similar, aren’t they? Is one flattering the other by imitating certain aspects of design or is it just a case of blatant copying? One was designed in 2000/2001 and the other showed up this recently this year. One costs four times what the other does, for good reason if the descriptions are anything to go by. I’ll leave it to you to decide if it’s an ‘inspired by’ situation or a flat out copy-cat.

Swivel Work Stool

If you prefer your bar seating to have a little more character, you’ll not want to ignore the Swivel Work Stool by Unionmade. Rocket Stool

The well known Eero Aarnio designed this three-legged stool in 1995, and, as you can tell, it hints at his other work with its rounded (“plump“) seat and legs. Interestingly enough, the Rocket was originally designed for Eero Aarnio’s own kitchen, though it’d do just as well in other rooms. The solid wood stool is available in oak wood painted white, black or soaped, and in two different sizes, Rocket Stool ($435) and Baby Rocket ($300).
