Trivet Stick

Y’A PAS LE FEU AU LAC has several pieces in their recent collection worthy of consideration, one of which is this Trivet Stick. A magnetic joint allows it to be used as a triangular trivet for hot pots and pans and then be straightened out to be stored easily with other cooking utensils like spoons and spatulas.

Plus One Salt Cellar

This Plus One Salt Cellar by Muuto is a good match to the Plus Spice Mill just as intended. Stone and wood are lasting materials that fit into a variety of kitchen styles so it’s no surprise that the adjective ‘timeless’ is bandied about; it’s a no-brainer (if you need a salt cellar).

Savone

Rethink your tablescape with the Savone plates by Metaphys. Inspired by the natural formations made by bubbles, these plates have divisions that allow you to present food with accompanying seasons or sauces, thus minimizing the number of dishes. (Also, if you’re not one to fuss with seasons, sauces, and other such accompaniments, you could perhaps use these as a sort of portion control guide for meals or snacks, as they are more modest in size.)

Avva S+P Shakers

This salt & pepper set has embedded neodymium magnets to help keep the two pieces paired together as one. That’s a small detail that makes a big difference if you’re always losing one or the other in the cabinet or on the table. It would also simplify passing the salt and pepper around the table when your family or guests prefer to season their own meal (chefs: cue audible gasp).

Myria Expandable Trivet

Trivets are one of those things you don’t think much about until you’re wondering how to protect your table with a hot dish in hand. The Myria trivet is made of rectangular stainless steel loops, which gives it a decidedly modern feel, yet the stand out feature is that it’s expandable and foldable. Designed by Anne Boenisch for Carl Mertens.

Geometry Cups

A little black and white geometry always catches the eye, and these cups from Ferm Living are no exception. However, upon first glance, a person might think ‘haven’t I seen these before?’ and that person might search their memory (and the internet) only to find an image of Masahiro Mori’s Mini Cups. Quite similar, indeed, yet there’s a sizable difference in dimensions. Ferm Living’s Geometry Cups are larger and more suited for water, tea, or coffee, while Mori’s Mini Cups are smaller and more fit for sake and spirits.

Need some new napkins? How about some that carry the complete text of a few love letters? Not just any love letters, mind you, but those from a literary great. One letter each from Emily Dickenson, Jack London, Mark Twain, and D.H. Lawrence, spelled out in their full glory. It’ll at least give you something to read when dinner conversation lags, right? If you’d like a preview of what each letter says, here you go.

Pi Glassware

As the retailer says, “Mix your drinks with a bit of math.” Just don’t start the conversation off by asking people if they’ve memorized the first hundred digits, because that’s a bit of a turn off. There’s also a Pi Kitchen Towel ($25), if that’s more your style. Glasses are etched.

WASARA Bamboo Utensils

We all know plastic cutlery is super cheap, but we also know it’s not very durable and certainly not very nice to look at. Maybe there’s an alternative? An alternative that perhaps is both beautiful and compostable? Meet the WASARA Bamboo Utensils. These utensils accompany the WASARA tableware collection, and, similarly, are intended for single-use occasions (think picnics, parties, etc.). Each one securely attaches to the edge of a WASARA plate or bowl thanks to a slit incorporated into each handle, so say sayonara to awkward balancing acts when adding food to your plate or making new acquaintances. More info on composting below.

Pingpong and Pacman Crochet Placemats

Ah, what the heck, if you’re going to allow trinkets in your home, you might as well allow some crochet placemats. Of course, these reference the Atari and arcade games of yore, with Pacman, Pingpong, Space Invaders, and Breakout patterns, which makes them even better (or nerdier, depending on your point of view) than traditional crochet placemats. That said, just typing ‘crochet’ two times in one paragraph is making me itchy.
