Cable Art by Maisie Maud Broadhead

Instead of hiding your wires, why not create some interesting features out of them? Though I’m sure it’s not for everyone, it’s certainly a smart solution to pesky wires. I’d love to see this sort of idea used to make all-out faux period detailing in a room, as in, molding and such… though at that scale you’d be wasting a lot of wire.

Alexander Girard Nativity Set

You’d have to be quite a fan to shell out $400 for this nativity, but hey, if you are, go for it… it’ll be a holiday highlight each year.

Alexander Girard amassed a huge collection of nativities, most of which he spent the last years of his life curating for his wing at the International Museum of Folk Art in Santa Fe. We thought it would be an appropriate homage to create a completely new nativity that is based on a Girard illustration that hangs in his son’s house.

– Non-toxic, child-safe inks
– Pieces 1″ (2.5 cm) to 7.75″ (19.5 cm) tall, Stable 11.75″ x 4″ x 8.75″ (30 cm x 10 cm x 22 cm)

Confetti System Pinatas

These are pretty fantastic and festive.–although if I paid $135 for a piñata I wouldn’t want anyone to destroy it with a stick. These might be nice for a birthday or the upcoming holidays as decor.

Kathy Dalwood Concrete Figurines

Last week I found the website of Kathy Dalwood and sort of fell in love with her concrete figurines. She collects vintage porcelain and plaster figurines and recasts them in black concrete. Each figurine, originally so delicate and carefully painted, is now made of a rough industrial material, with bubbles and imperfections, and with the heavy block bases they have a definitive modern spin about them. Needless to say, I bought one (go here to see it in my home).

Visit Kathy’s blog to see how the figurines are made.

She also makes some lovely Urn Scupltures, architectural friezes and concrete planters, thought the planters are currently unavailable due to her manufacturer going out of business.

Prices range from £110-£350 depending on piece.
Keep in mind that shipping costs might be sort of high considering the weight.

Ink Posters

Screen prints are one of my favorite ways to add interest to a wall without having to spend too much money.
I’m particularly fond of the works of Ink Posters–they’re simple, modern and not too fussy.

Jimmy McBride Galaxy Quilt

Sorry if you’ve seen this before, but Jimmy McBride’s quilts are ridiculously wonderful and it would be horrible if there wasn’t at least some small mention on our site. They almost inspire you to pick up some fabric and attempt at some space-inspired quilts of your own, right?

Prices seem to be around $1,750.00-$2,000.00 for a Child’s 38″ x 50″ Quilt*.

*I don’t know about you, but for that price, that sucker is going on a wall, not on a kid’s bed (unless they are very very cold, of course).

Air Lines Poster

This art project shows every scheduled flight on any given day with fine lines from the point of origin to the destination. Thousands of lines form dark knots in the busier areas with lighter lines showing less frequented locations, all which define the continents rather than the land/sea relationship. I tend to like the resulting ghost-like net of lines. I might just buy one.

White or Black available.
(The white on black poster is limited to a print run of only 100.)
Each poster is printed on state of the art offset printers on high quality heavyweight fine-art paper. Securely packed and shipped in cardboard mailing tube.
