Coffee Tables

Konstantin Grcic: Diana Series

While I’ve seen one or two of this series before, never have I seen them grouped together in such an impressive way, nor in so many different colors. And, yes, of course, it is slightly more expensive than your usual run-of-the-mill side/coffee table, but it’s not your usual run-of-the-mill side/coffee table. So, there you have it.

“The Diana series numbered from A to F allow you to create your own art installation. Side table? Cubist Sculpture? Lectern? Notebook stand? Reference library? Konstantin Grcic’s new series of sheet metal tables is open to a wide range of interpretations and uses and, most importantly, to the imagination. Just as words are built from letters, the Diana tables combine with other furniture and objects in ever-varying visual contexts. With the Diana alphabet from A to F, a living room can be transformed to a CAFE or to a word from an entirely new, entirely personal language. iF Award Winner & reddot Award Winner.”

Sheet metal, powder coated.

‘folded’ coffee table

Check it out, an origami-ish coffee table. No, it doesn’t fold up, but the surface appears to have been folded/unfolded with it’s ‘sloping planes’. It would look pretty killer in person; I’m willing to bet money on it.

“inspired by the art of origami, the ‘folded’ table is yet another in a recent line of impressive designs by arik levy. available in two heights, this rectangular coffee table is supported by a chromed steel base, and has an .5″ thick plastic top made using ‘carousel moulding’ – a process which allows a full consistancy of materials and a polished, scratch resistant surface. the three-dimensional table top is something to be admired, with it’s asymmetrical sloping planes – like, naturally, a sheet of folded origami paper – which creates a diamond-like effect when light is shined upon it. and yet, the inclinations are very slight, so you won’t have to worry about things sliding off.”

top available in two colors : standard black or burgundy red.
dimensions : 29.75″w x 51.1″l : high version – 18.5″h : low version – 11″h

Archipi

This is pretty amazing.

“Archipi is a sculptural presence in high-gloss lacquered wood.

Originally based on a request from a customer, the challenge was to create a table without any visible joint, complete in high-gloss. The resulting piece is a product of a several week process, equally at home as a coffee table or in the garage next to your ferrari.”

Yep, it’s a bit more than maybe most of you would like to spend on a coffee table, BUT it’s made out of recycled paper and it’s freaking cool. Save your pennies and it’ll be worth it, trust me.

Snow Table

Nendo: Snow Table
Swedese, Sweden.

“Designed by Nendo in Japan. Have you ever awaked in the morning to a soft blanket of snow covering your yard and smiled? Perhaps it is because there is something about the winter that appeals to the minimalist in all of us. Everything covered in a nice clean white veil, the hard edges of ice on the windows. With the Snow Table, designedy Nendo for Swedese you can bring some of that winter beauty into your home. This modular and expandable table is made by connecting a series of snowflake shaped white plywood sections together, and placing an appropriately sized pane of glass on top. We love the modular aspect of it that makes it possible to expand as necessary, or as desired.”

Material: White lacquered โ€œsnow flakesโ€ย in MDF. Clear Glass Top. Simple assembly required.

Context Furniture William & Mary Tables

So if you need some surface space on a small budget, I’d recommend taking a look at these tables. I think they’ve got a lot of punch for the price (quite fond of the stylized shaping of the legs with the laminated top).

“Context Furniture’s William & Mary tables add a different kind of contrast, with their ultrasmooth laminate surfaces and aluminum legs. The silhouettes (again, especially in the legs, but also in the shaping of the tabletop edges) still draw on historical designs, but the overall result is distinctly modern.”

Some color options: black knight, invasion red, monarch white, royal blue

Materials: Anodized aluminum legs with 3/4 inch laminated, multi-ply top.

Kirei Mod Coffee Table

Look at this- an environmentally friendly coffee table that looks like it shouldn’t be (and, by that, I just mean that it’s suprising that it is)…I really like the stark contrast between the matte white and natural fibers. Well done!

“A graphic coffee table featuring Kirei board, an environmentally friendly material made from the reclaimed stalks of the sorghum plant. Normally an agricultural waste product, the discarded stalks are bonded into a sheet glued with formaldehyde-free adhesives. The result is a beautiful textured material that looks like plant cells. We’ve clad the Kirei in matte white acrylic with areas cut away to form a strong graphic motif.”

Material: Kirei & Acrylic.
