Tractor vs. Metro Barstool

Hmm, these two stools are very similar, aren’t they? Is one flattering the other by imitating certain aspects of design or is it just a case of blatant copying? One was designed in 2000/2001 and the other showed up this recently this year. One costs four times what the other does, for good reason if the descriptions are anything to go by. I’ll leave it to you to decide if it’s an ‘inspired by’ situation or a flat out copy-cat.

Metamorphic Chair-Stool-Side table

Do you remember this chair by John Reeves? It’s remarkable: a stool becomes a chair and vice versa, simply by lifting or lowering the seat back. Several chairs can be stacked as stools, leaving a very small footprint for a whole lot of seating. Perhaps this same idea has been employed before, but I’d reckon it would be hard to find a sample with the same degree of thoughtful design and simplicity. (Update: now on sale for $416.50 from $595)

Basset Chair

Measuring in at 47″ wide and 39″ deep, this Basset Chair is what one would call a sit-down-and-curl-up-in-lounge chair. There’s also a Pouf Ottoman to rest your tired feet, the Basset 2-Seater to share with your loved one, or a 2.5-Seater or a 3-Seater if you need a little more breathing room.

Clutch Dining Chair

Smokey Purple, please. Or Pewter… or one of the other several lovely colors paired with smoke on ash wood (or white oak). Often dining chairs look so uncomfortable, never mind once you sit down on them, but not the Clutch Dining Chair with its elegant rounded edges and curved back. Choose two for the table ends or go all out and get a full six or eight to surround your whole table. However, be advised that guests may linger well after you wish at future dinner parties.

The ornamental base references a more traditional style while the smooth top will hold your books, lamps, drinks, or derrière comfortably.

Holy Stool

This stool is a familiar riff on the Milking Stool by UM Projects we posted a few years ago, yet with this variation, the legs are a bit farther apart for stability. So, sit on it, put your feet up, or use it for drinks and books, and know that it won’t topple over easily. The legs are dipped in ultra-matte lacquer for a bright contrast.
