Dining and Side Chairs

JW-01 Chair

Nice walnut stacking chair on sale.
“When Jakob Wagner designed the JW-01 Chair he wasn’t only thinking how to create a sublime sense of balance with disparate elements. He was addressing how to design a chair at once beautiful and nearly indestructible, vividly comfortable yet functional for home as well as public spaces. Wagner’s talent for fusing engineering with aesthetic grace, solving the needs of the human body to find shelter in a seat, is exemplified by the JW-01. The seat back undulates gently to embrace the torso. The ample seat, with its waterfall edge, curves away from the thigh for optimal comfort. The sleigh-style stainless steel legs, 12mm solid yet thin, establish balance that is essential for secure sitting. The chairs can be stacked without damage.”

Coco Chair

In this day and age of spending $200-$400 (or more) on a dining chair, I truly hope that people actually like what they buy. It’s certainly hard for me to imagine dropping thousands of dollars to seat 6 people, but when I think about if and when I do, the chair/ chairs would certainly have to meet some requirements. Which brings me to the point of this particular chair. It’s stylish, simple, and durable. And, this might sound silly, but I really like the fact that the barrel backrest/armrest can be hung on a tabletop so you can easily sweep underneath (I hate sweeping around chairs, or moving them aside).

So. There you go.

“A single piece of solid beech wood acts as both the back leg and backrest support to provide maximum strength. Available in a versatile stained ebony, as well as a striking red. The lacquer is repeatedly applied for a thick, consistent finish.”

Rex Chair

This simple, utilitarian chair is quite inexpensive and well made.

“Designer
Niko Kralj

Design classic that stands the test of time.

Architect approved.

Folds for compact storage.

If you ask most older architects to pick their favorite folding chair design, there’s a good chance they’ll refer you to the Rex Armchair. Designed in 1952 by award-winning Slovenian designer Niko Kralj, the Rex appeals to the trained—and untrained—eye with its simple solid birch wood construction and fluid folding mechanism. Despite its storage capability, the design’s wide, comfortable seat and backrest, and sloping armrests invite frequent use in a lounge or office. When folded, the armchair measures less than six inches wide. Made in Russia.”

Mummy chair

I really like these Mummy chairs. Wrapped in polyester ribbon, these bent beech-wood chairs add humor and maybe even sort of a high art feel, if you could call it that. (If anyone chooses to recreate, I’d love to see pictures.) Seat and backrest are padded with polyurethane foam.

Designed by Peter Traag.

the “b” chair

This is a striking chair with a cantilevered seat. It’s a little pricy to buy more than one, (unless you have that kind of budget) but if you were looking for a signature piece for a study or main entry way, this might be your chair.

Chair One

The Chair One looks like something made in the 80′s intended to look like it was made in 2020. Whatever decade it was actually made in, I love this chair. It’s weather-proofed so it would look equally great indoors or outdoors.

an exceptionally versatile indoor/outdoor seating system, the chair is one of the most original and important seating designs to come along in years. chair legs are polished anodized aluminum and seats are die-cast aluminum, cataphoretically-treated and painted in red, white or anthracite polyester powder. a concrete base version is available as well as swivel and public seating variations. the concrete base is painted transparent clear.

The past influences the present- as seen here in the William & Mary Metro Cafe Chair and End Table. I tend towards really appreciating products that meld old styles with new; somehow it gives a sense of history to homes without sacrificing a clean aesthetic.

Bale Chair

This has been around the blogger’s block a few times, but I think it’s worth a little bit of talk here on our site. What to do with all those old newspapers? Or that huge stack of magazines? Well, make a chair out of it, of course! It’s not often that you’re involved in the design process of your furniture, so think about it. It’d be fun. And you could change it as often as you like.

“Each Bale Chair consists of a molded plywood seat shell and plywood base made from FSC certified wood veneers, nylon levelers and two recycled polyester webbing straps with steel buckles.”

Heller Selene Chair

I love these stackable functional indoor/outdoor injection molded nylon chairs that are appropriate for commercial, institutional, and residential use. I could try to plug in more adjectives/descriptive phrases in that sentence, but then it might get annoying.
