Pen Pencils

The Seven Year Pen

Say goodbye to throwing away pens. This pen has a jumbo ink cartridge inside, ensuring that you can write about 1.7 meters a day for seven years. Pretty decent timeline, no? And it’s good to know that you’re not contributing to the whopping 100 million pens discarded every day. Now you just need to not lose it.

Magic 8 Ball Pen

Seeing as you cannot (and should not) carry around a real Magic 8 Ball in your pocket, briefcase, or purse, this pen will get you out of those moments of indecision with just a click. Need I stress that this pen is $7, and your hopes should not be too high as to the quality or longevity? If you’re in holiday shopping mode, make note: stocking stuffer.

The pen’s sayings:
Not For A Million Dollars; Dude, No Way; Hell Yeah! If You’re Lucky; It’s Unclear, Ask Again; Without A Doubt.

Eco Highlighter Yellow

Highlight those presentation notes without bleeding through the page, and minus the fumes. The Eco Highighter Yellow is a dry alternative to highlighter markers. I have a feeling a plain yellow colored pencil would work too, but this one does have eco-cred; it uses no ink solvents, no volatile organic compounds, and is fully biodegradable.

Will You Ever Use Me Again?

Artist and designer Dino Snachez created this series of pencils as a reminder that “technology has displaced our use of a basic, steadfast tool of craft.” Apparently New Yorkers will soon find them throughout the city (especially Apple stores), as they’re meant to be taken and used by the public.

Sold as a set of 10 pencils.

Poppin Office Supplies

I’m a little remiss in posting this after the official launch, but as the saying goes, better late than never. Poppin is a new online shop offering great office supplies for pretty decent prices. I’ve had them bookmarked for weeks and now it seems all their products are available to purchase (their website is still in beta, though, so be kind). Whether you’d like an overhaul of your desk supplies or just a few odds and ends, their site is chock full of colorful office essentials (along with the requisite black and white pieces, of course).

DBA Pen

Maybe you’ve seen this already, maybe you haven’t. Either way, it’s still the only 98% biodegradable pen in the world. The body is composed of bio-plastic, the ink reservoir from biodegradable fiber, and the ink itself is ACMI certified non-toxic. Not enough for you? Well, it’s also produced at a wind-powered facility in the US, so that should be enough to impress.

Designed to decompose in a compost facility within 180 days.

Messograf

Whoa, check out the new Theo site, the little brother/alter ego of Thorsten van Elten. It’s chock full of interesting objects for sale and the website is a sight for sore eyes, let me tell you. In a world of online shops with blaring graphics and flashing lights, it’s refreshing to see the fuss eliminated. This Messograf Pen caught my eye; it’s a caliper rule, tire tread gauge, ruler and pen all in one.

Parafernalia Falter 2D Designer Pen

Otherwise known as ‘the pen that you make’, this pen is handmade out of industrial steel. The snap apart template includes elements to make a ball point pen, stand and mini ruler. Now, you ask, why in the world would you pay $40 for a pen that you have to make when there’s a dozen perfectly good bic pens at your disposal? Good question. For the tinkering, I suppose, or for the novelty. I found more pics and info at Visual Streak, if you’re interested.

TelePen

Say goodbye to being pen-less with this on your keychain. (However, it might be pointed out that you’d still have to search around for your keys to get to the pen. Also, if you want to see the pen ‘in action’ there’s a dumb video showing just how convenient it can be.)

The ultra-compact TelePen is a handy collapsible pen that attaches to your keychain. Weighing less than an ounce and measuring less than two inches, you’ll hardly notice the diminutive telescoping pen dangling from your keyring. But the TelePen is there when you need it, expanding to nearly the length of a standard pen. Its tough stainless steel exterior protects it from the elements. Includes three black ink refills.

Dimensions: 2″ when collapsed, 4.625″ when extended
