Summerhouse Skรฅne

Sometimes it’s easy to forget how much paint can change an interior. This renovated farmhouse gets a jolt of bright turquoise to highlight the stairs, bookcase, and door jamb. Also, check out the site for the bright yellowish orange wall/room, which is surprisingly lovely.

Whoa, check out this apartment with its crazy color-transitional parquet floors. Not sure how much I’d like to live there with that much color all the time, but it’s certainly nice to look at. Visit designboom for bigger/more pics.

they used patterns and colour to order space in previous projects that the occupants had seen.
the overlapping colours transform the layout of the apartment and add a new structure of spaces
linked to each other across the original plan. the parquet floor also function as a uniting system
that offer design possibilities. once they had set up colours in different shades, they developed
each room in relation to the others, every piece of parquet was defined to fit into the right postion,
there was no random factor in the construction process. -designboom

Villa Berkel

This home has a very Farnsworth House/Mies Van Der Rohe sort of feel to it, with the exterior walls all being glass and with a central core. One difference however, is that in the Farnsworth house, the bathrooms are in the central core, and this fabulous bathroom is out there for everyone to see.

Bathroom Inspiration at Door 16

If you’ve been following the remodel section, you know that I’m currently remodeling an old home. Due to budget constraints, that means lots of waiting and obsessing on the internet trying to find solutions. Ordinarily, I would know exactly how to do the remodel, but in this case, my home is an old California Craftsman, and I’m not really sure how to honor the old structure while updating it. Basically, I don’t have enough experience with the style to know how to proceed.

One salvation for me has been Door 16. While her home is a Victorian and the styles are somewhat different, some of the updates she is doing would actually work quite well in a Craftsman.

These are some bathrooms she posted late last year for inspiration and I’m thinking these style might work in my home.

Bronte Road Residence in Sydney Australia

This kitchen is fantastic. Obviously, the wood floors are nice and the layout is perfection, but I especially love the giant vent hood masquerading as a giant lamp fixture.

Transom Windows

This apartment in Copenhagen is beautiful. From the light wood floors, to the white walls, to the simple furniture selections…I’m smitten.

I absolutely love the transom window above the door. If you have the ceiling height, it could be a good way to add extra light into a dark room or just make a plain door more interesting.

Fabrica Shop in Italy

I’m loving the surface treatments and interesting color palette at the Fabrica shop in Bologna, Italy. I especially love the cluster of black linen light shades.

Home 00 by Studio i-29

Amsterdam’s i29 has done it again with the 00 House. This 1614 square feet home appears to be quite large due to the expansive wood floors and open spaces. The large movable walls allow for changing the space when necessary.

Cape Schanck House by Jackson Clements Burrows

Here’s a great architectural piece by Jackson Clements Burrows. I’m especially drawn to the ‘black cube’ execution of the kitchen and it reminds me of the black cube at the FCET house.

Inspiration: Wallpaper in an office

I love how the wallpaper is used on one wall in this office. It really creates one unified visual area which really ties the workspace together.

In Bruge-old house remodel

The people over at OWI were nice enough to let me use these images which are usually reserved for architectural books. If you’re looking for remodel ideas, you could literally spend hours at the OWI site looking through fantastic homes.

In this Bruge home in particular, there are some very interesting modifications to an old home with modern ideas. This kitchen which is hidden behind a sliding glass door is pretty cool.

Fabric Markers on Furniture

Pamela Bell invited her daughter’s class to decorate their muslin covered sofas with fabric markers (and maybe some paint by the looks of it). While it might not be for everyone, it’s a great way to personalize a piece of furniture and make your home a little bit edgier. Also, check out the super wide fridge with the magnetic chalkboard cover.

Green Roofs/Wall Panels

Audrey over at the Dwell Blog wrote a short article about green roofs that’s worth a look. Installation is not as simple as I’m sure we’d all like to believe, but when done right, green roofs can have important economic benefits that add up into one smart investment.

When looking through some of the companies offering green roof systems, there was some impressive photos of Green Wall Panels by G-SKY that had me imagining my second floor patio walls completely covered in greenery. Might be just the thing for those of us who can’t quite commit (or afford) to redo our roofs yet, but still want to scratch that itch of ‘green-ing’ our home a little bit more. Pricing depends on plant selections, wall type, and overall size.

There’s also ELT Living Walls (not shown), which are a bit more accessible (and affordable, starting at $189.00).

Stained Glass 2″ Luminous Tiles

I recently added some glass mosaic tiles to my kitchen back splash, and the slight reflection of the small squares add such a nice touch. Something to keep in mind if you’re itching to update your own kitchen or bath…
