Remember this bed? We posted it back in 2015 when it was a Kickstarter project, and now it’s available as a hardware kit as well. That allows you to source your own panels from your local hardware store, or, for the more adventurous, maybe even from a salvage yard. Pretty fun and very affordable, seeing as the hardware kit starts at $265 for a queen bed.

Nightstands, bed side tables, whatever you call them, they’re somewhat necessary for a good night’s sleep. So says anyone that has knocked over a glass of water, groped blindly for an alarm clock or phone, or lost their device/watch/jewelry/what-have-you under the bed or in the covers. Here’s a few that are easy on the eyes, have at least a little storage space, and are relatively easy on the wallet… except for a couple, which qualify as expensive as they have a comma in the price tag.

This Metalwork Nightstand has been on the radar lately, and what a pleasant surprise to find the price in a very affordable range. The hot rolled steel option is $249, the white lacquer $199, and, if you don’t mind a little celadon, you can get it at $139. Celadon? Our new favorite color, I think.

Winter brings holidays and those holidays usually bring guests. That may or may not be something you enjoy, especially if you’re short on space. Here’s something that might make your younger* guests a little more comfortable without taking up too much room the rest of the year. Remember how I shared that I am building a lake house? Well, that endeavor also involves finding furniture to fill that lake house somewhat soon. I am against the idea of filling up a house all at once, because schedule constraints should not force one’s hand when it comes to collecting pieces that one will live on/around for the next several decades of one’s life. Plus, do you really need every room to be stuffed full? No, of course not. Personally, I like furnishing a home bit by bit, adding a piece here and there only when you need (or badly want) it.

As you get older, do you feel like your taste in furniture becomes more expensive? If so, let’s commiserate together. I’m trying to settle on furnishings for a lake house, and it’s been a continual push and pull between budget constraints and nicer items of quality. Case in point, do I splurge on beds, as they’re the main item in a bedroom, and thus will most likely be there forever? Or do I settle for a pretty good alternative, as I’ll probably be the only one that notices the finer details between the two? Hmm, choices.

Huh? This seems like a price too good to be true for a canopy bed. I always thought Room&Board’s Architecture Bed was the best price in the business, but now this Frame Canopy Bed just might take the spot. Canopy beds are excellent for creating a room within a room, which is very suitable for large rooms with high ceilings. Will you get tired of the the brass plated corners after a few weeks years? Maybe, but whenever that happens, there’s more than enough DIY guides on painting brass that will fix that. A quick spray primer on the brass parts and then another contrasting color (dark blue?) would look fantastic.

It’s not my job to save you money (or is it?), but if you’re looking for a decently priced (and minimal/modern) bed, you might just want to take a gander at the Plush. You can save a couple of hundred dollars- until June 9- on either the grey or natural color options, leaving you a little extra money to splurge on, say, perhaps some new summer bed linens?

Sometimes you might settle for sub-par furniture. That’s acceptable in some cases, but certainly not for a piece of furniture you’re going to sleep on for a third of your lifetime.
