Ink Blot Dinner Plate Series by Kathleen Walsh

I think these might be one of my favorite things I’ve seen in a while…and I’m going to quote straight from unica as they did such a good job explaining the series and such:

“the ink blot series, designed by kathleen walsh for walteria living, is inspired by a 19th century parlor game called blotto. a pre-cursor to the use of inkblots by rorschach in modern research psychology as personality tests, blotto encouraged right-brain thinking in a social setting. it is the intent of this series to simulate a similar dialogue and promote togetherness around the dinner table. plates are japanese porcelain with lead-free certified glaze. sold as a set of 4. available with text in black or gold. dimensions: 10.7″d

text on the plates reads as follows:
a) “1% – an outlaw biker rides alone, his destiny remains uncertain”
b) “compassion among species – 2 altruistic butterflies fly 2 injured field mice to safety”
c) “dueling roosters – 2 roosters engage in staring competition, there will be only 1 winner”
d) “an unlikely event – 1 winged porcine creature stands poised at the edge of a reflective pool”‘

Anne Black Tilt Porcelain Dishware

Handmade from high quality porcelain materials, this collection is really kind of fun with it’s slighty off-kilter design. The red line is a silkscreen print applied by hand, and it’s just the perfect touch.

Insect Fruit Plates

I absolutely love these plates and I know that they are way too expensive (at least for the average person). But they’re so completely lovely; the hand painted insects were taken from a famous Cumberland pattern designed by Joseph Zachenberger from 1760-1765 (I’m such a sucker for historical replicas).

Upstate Collection, Constantin Boym 2002

I like these so much I can hardly stand to talk about them. At first glance, these plates look like the picturesque towns and touristy places, but, upon closer inspection you notice that you don’t really know what’s going on. All of these plates are digital decal prints (on ceramic) of nondescript places in upstate New York. Telephone wires, ‘wrong’ cars on the road, and other odd things make these odd plates really quite wonderful. (Two more are available, just not shown here.)

Each plate is numbered from a limited edition of 300.

Rehabilitated Dishware

Oh man. This is something special. Maybe you’ve seen her stuff before, maybe not. I saw a picture of one of her designs months ago and only recently found the name to match the plate. Sarah Cihat rehabilitates discarded dishware by applying templates/designs, painting and then reglazing. As you can see, the results are spectacluar. I might have to buy some. Or learn glazing techniques.
