NOD Bedside Night Light by IC Design

I like the idea of being able to use this as storage for your phone or glasses so they’re right where you put them when you wake up.

“The NOD Light is a unique and functional bedside table light or wall mounted light. The design incorporates storage for the reader’s current book, as well as mobile phone, glasses, iPod, or other small item. Designed for the bedside but useful in a variety of places, the design includes a passage through the back to accommodate the recharger cord for a mobile phone or other device. 30W (equivalent to 100W) bulb included. 6.5 ft. white cord.”

Pablo Tube Top Colored Small Table Lamps

Some refreshing color options are now available on Pablo Tube Top Lamps.

“A minimalist statement in form and proportion. Tube Top combines a
transparent formed acrylic base to support its elegant mesh fabric
shade in tension, steering away from conventional modes of
construction. Its lightweight shade appears to float freely, gently
tethered by its fabric cord.”

I-Club Table Lamp

The veneer used for the lampshade is quite lovely- that paired with the oblong shape makes for an altogether interesting light source.

“Hand made, its elegant and compact design is equipped with T-5 technology to ensure a minimum of energy consumption. In this way the ‘CLUB’ family achieves a duality between the warmth of ambient lighting and the illuminating power of fluorescent lights.”

Finishes available are white ash, cherry, red, green and grey tulip wood.

Daedalus Lamp by Tord Boontje

Quite similar to the
Icarus Light, the Daedalus utilizes the same overlapping feather shapes yet provides soft lighting for tabletops.

“Activate or dim this dramatic sculptural light with a gentle touch to the chrome base. Inspired by the Greek mythological inventor, Daedalus, the shade is made of a white mylar polyester with a base of satin-plated steel. Requires one 60-watt bulb (not included). Simple assembly required.”

Translucent Bird Lamp

This lamp is really kind of strange: it’s pretty modern, yet the bird (to me) doesn’t quite make sense. To make things even more confusing, I think I like it more because of that.

“Light and airy enough to fit into traditional, classic style, yet this clear lamp reminds us of Philippe Starck’s modern Louis Ghost Chair. We love how the clear glass not only reveals its own light but also reflects its luminous surroundings.”

KULLA Table lamp

Here’s a great new desk lamp from Ikea. It’s large in scale and looks great in person. It has a built-in three-way touch dimmer on the lamp which operates as the switch. Diffuser on top of lamp provides a glare-free light.

Diameter: 16 ”

Height: 22 ”

Tonka Lamp

Here’s a cool little table (or floor) lamp. I like how the silver laminate and the exposed edges play with the traditional idea of a lamp silhouette.

“The crisp, clean lines of the Tonka lamp bring an elegant simplicity to your contemporary decor. Available as a table or floor lamp, it is an ideal choice for your bedside or your favorite corner.”

Standing Blue Lamp by Isamu Noguchi, 1952

Noguchi is well known for his lighting designs, and this one is certainly considered a classic.

“Akari Light Sculptures by Isamu Noguchi are considered icons of 1950s modern design. Designed by Noguchi beginning in 1951 and handmade for over half a century by the original manufacturer in Gifu, Japan, the paper lanterns are a harmonious blend of Japanese handcraft and modernist form. Created from handmade washi paper and bamboo ribbing, and supported by a metal frame.”

Note: MoMA Store no longer carries this particular lamp, but you might check out the Noguchi Museum Shop for other lamps.

Venus

Check out this modern interpretation of the well known Venus- I especially like the blue…

“The beauty of the Venus de Milo is illuminated with this ultra-modern version of one of the world’s most celebrated sculptures. The light within shines through the sculpture, creating a lovely, romantic glow that would please any goddess of love and beauty.”

Cubix Lamp

We saw this at ICFF at the designboom booth. The frames are adjustable, allowing you to diffuse or concentrate the light depending on your mood.

“It’s a lamp made out of oak wood frames and the frames provide both the frame of the lamp as well as the lampshade. At 3.9″x3.9″x10.6″…it is a perfect size for any small surface that needs enhancing. The wooden frames are attached alongside one axis, allowing you to play with them and create different overlapping spaces, which in turn allow the light to stream out.”
