Inkless Monthly Planner

An inkless planner? Yes, indeed, this monthly planner by South Korea based O-Check Design Graphics uses no ink; it’s pressed with an intaglio printing technique so that it stays environmentally friendly. A completely blank calendar page allows you to customize the weeks and months with your own handwriting and/or stamps, giving you an option to stay super minimal or go crazy with colors and hand drawn patterns.

Midori MD 2015 Monthly Notebook

Do you have your 2015 planner yet? No? May I suggest Midori’s MD 2015 Monthly Notebook? It’s a minimal planner that has plenty of blank space for your notes and sketches. Often planners get a little too crowded with text and someone else’s idea of organization, and that’s why the quiet pages of this planner seem especially welcoming. Memo pages are divided into eight sections so that you may use them as weekly pages or just for notes. That plus the monthly layouts and blank pages at the back allows room for you to organize dates and information the way you prefer. The Midori Monthly Notebook’s pages open flat as they’re bound by strings.

Magnote

Perhaps you have a favorite notebook, but I bet you a dollar bill that it doesn’t have magnets as a main component. Huh? Yep, magnets. The Magnote, currently a Kickstarter project, has neodymium magnets embedded in its spine, allowing you to easily carry several at once while keeping your ideas or projects separate. It lays completely flat when opened, so you can take advantage of the full page surface. Carry just as many as you need in an orderly stack and separate them whenever needed. At the size of an iPad, each notebook stacks easily alongside the others on a shelf, and you can choose between a blank, gridded, ruled, or a daily or monthly minimal planner.

MIDORI MD 2014 Monthly Notebook

It’s October already, and you know what that means. Besides getting your Halloween festivities sorted, your Thanksgiving plans arranged, and your subconscious started on options for special holiday gifts, you need to find a decent monthly planner for 2014. No? Lucky you. Yes? Join the club. I’ve been on the quest to find the perfect (i.e. minimal) monthly planner for what seems like forever, and though Moleskine and others have come close, I think this one by MIDORI (and available from Baum-Kuchen) might just win first place for 2014.

With plenty of negative space on each monthly calendar, there’s oodles of room to make notes. Memo pages are divided into eight sections for optional weekly pages and there’s plenty of blank pages for extra sketches or notes. Last but not least, the MIDORI Monthly Notebook is bound by strings, so the planner opens flat for easier writing and perusal.

Moleskine Gardening Gift Box Set

As Mother’s/Father’s day and graduation season approaches, you’d best have a few gift ideas on hand. This gift box from Moleskine might just do the trick- the gardening set includes a Gardening Journal, a Large Gardening Memo Pocket with 6 pockets and 12 Seeds Envelopes to collect and to exchange seeds and leaves. And, if the recipient doesn’t have a green thumb, consider the Travel Box Set (travel journal plus 2 luggage tags, $49), Gourmet Box Set (recipe journal, wine journal, tasting and coaster notes, $69), or the Writing Box Set (ruled notebook, rollerball pen, gel ink pen, $39).

Tomorrow Planner Large

Some of us have found that planners aren’t always to our liking- unnecessary sections, small daily layouts and bad font/color decisions can be irritating. That’s precisely why this Tomorrow Planner seems like something worth considering. It has open-dated, perpetual month views (13 sheets), week views (56 sheets), blank pages (18 sheets) and list pages (18 sheets), but most importantly, just look at all that room on the weekly view. There’s lots of space for notes and/or drawings. And, perhaps yellow isn’t your favorite color, but keep in mind it’ll always be easy to spot in your bag or on your desk.

Word. Notebooks

Know someone who is slightly finicky about their lists? As in, things should be organized just so, and preferably with symbols to keep track of what’s done/undone? If so, turn their eyes towards this notebook that features a unique bullet point system to keep lists tidy. It aims to satisfy the most fastidious list maker with a ready made circle beside each line for denoting progress.

Red Thread Notebook

These notebooks from WRITERSBLOK use old fashioned string tie closures to keep your notes secure. Note: if you are particularly picky about paper, do a little research and read a few reviews on WRITERSBLOK journals- a few people have commented that the paper is a little thinner than Moleskine notebooks, so you might have some ink bleed-through if you prefer heavier/thicker ink. Available in small or medium, brown or black, and plain or ruled.

Scratch Travel Journal

Do you think Columbus Day should be rededicated as Explorer’s Day? Sounds better, doesn’t it? However you feel about the issue, and whether or not you have the day off, don’t let that adventurous spirit inside you get too comfortable on the sofa. Take a trip! While you’re at it, maybe bring along this travel journal: there’s a checklist, a diary, an international translator (perhaps not the most thorough, mind you), and the pièce de résistance, of course, is the scratch off maps. Scratch off the towns and chart your journey through a continent. Maybe it’s a little fussy for the serious traveler, but if your approach is more carefree then it could be a fun way to keep track of your travels.
