Baskets Containers

Code Basket

I love these Code baskets by Ola Wihlborg; the larger size would be perfect for wood storage (as shown). (Too bad it’s not more affordable or I would say it’d be the best freaking laundry basket out there.)

Leather Baskets

These baskets run no risk of being ordinary; their architectural forms would look just as good empty as with something in them.

“This design is created from strips of soft leather, woven and stitched to form a flexible basket with an architectural quality.”

Folding Crate

How handy are these?

When collapsed, our Folding Crate is compact enough to hide away in the car trunk or between the washer and dryer. But when expanded, its large capacity defies all logic! Made of heavy-duty plastic and reinforced with metal pins for greater strength, multiples can be stacked securely atop one another and are perfect for carting groceries or sports equipment. It’s durable enough for heavy items, but light enough for kids to carry their toys.

Rubber Tubs, Pots and Tote

These containers are made from discarded tires that are hand-cut and hand-sewn into a multi-use vessel indoors or out. They’d be perfect as a planter, carrying container, or just act as a holdall for miscellany.

“Americans alone toss out about 300 million tires every year. The big thinkers of the world are working on creative ways to reuse this vast quantity of rubber – ideas include mixing ground-up tires with urethane to create sidewalks or burning them like coal to produce energy. Meanwhile, some designers are thinking a little smaller. With the large Rubber Tote, discarded tires are hand-cut and hand-sewn into a vessel that can be used indoors or out as planter for a small tree, carrying container, space for gardening supplies or anything else that can benefit from solidly constructed storage. Modeled on ancient leather-crafting techniques, these durable containers are each unique and offer a functional alternative to the landfill. Not guaranteed to be watertight. Made in Egypt.”

Simple Felt Baskets

Think of all the places you could use these- I especially like that they can be folded away when not in use, and it also certainly helps that they are now on sale.

‘Thick sheets of wool felt are precision cut and minimally stitched to give this “box” its shape. Useful for its ability to hold a wide range of notions, the Felt Basket is kind to walls and tabletops and won’t bruise or nick adjacent surfaces in the event of a bump. While utilitarian storage has its merits, this item’s soft architectural presence furthers its appeal. When not it use, it can be folded into a more compact shape for storage. The 100% wool construction is naturally dirt and flame resistant.’

Designchain

This is so very clever. Mountable as a shelving solution or stacked to make a storage unit, the Designchain is a good solution to all that stuff that needs organizing. It’s modular, so it can also be added to by attaching other Designchains.

“Designed by New Zealander Alan Hucks, the Designchain is an effortlessly stylish, multi functional storage system based on a bicycle or motorcycle chain. It is made from crystal clear polycarbonate and is linked together to form a series of tubes that will hold anything from wine to flowers, magazines to utensils, remotes to mobile phones.”

D & M Rubber Containers

Such a steal! As far as planters go, they look a whole lot better than the selection at any garden store I’ve seen.

“Made of rubber, these containers are water tight, lending them to a range of functions. Here at the store we drill holes in the bottom and use them for succulents or orchids. Or we use them as is for floral arrangements. You can use yours however you’d like.”

Kbox modular boxes

Here are some elegant alternatives to the regular ol’ jewelry box/drawer organization trays. Take a look at the site to see all the different variations…all quite nice.

“Here is a sleek modular container system to hold your personal treasures. The boxes are made from matte black aluminum and come with lids. They can be used alone or with the optional wool felt inserts. The bottom of the box is covered with a tiny rubber dot pattern to protect surfaces. The boxes neatly stack on your desktop, and come with different printed wrappers so they are great for gift-giving.”

Alan Fletcher: Clam Container

Are you picky about plastic? These containers are considered classics (lots of good things came from the 60’s) and would make excellent lay-about storage for smaller items.

“This classic multipurpose container was designed by British born Alan Fletcher for the Italian company Mebel in 1968. This container consists of two interlocking parts, which allow you to switch colors if you purchase two or more units. Use it as a small storage container or use each part as a “catch it all” for keys, coins, paperclips, etc. Each united is stamped with the designer’s name. A timeless and practical design.”
