Desk/Work

Verge Desk

At first glance, this desk reminded me of the Stash Desk by Blu Dot, but after taking a second look, it’s really not a fair comparison due to the dimensions. Sure, the Stash desk is a winner for its price and simplicity, but this desk is super sleek and has an additional 20″ in length for desktop space. Just take a look at it in another color and you’ll understand the price tag.

Paul Desk

Do you need some nooks and crannies to put your workplace odds and ends? This desk by Wintercheck Factory might fit the bill with its removable side boxes that are perfect for stashing your miscellany. And, good news, it’s $595, which is less than it was back in ’09 ($740.00-$840.00).

Orson Desk

Whoa, cast iron legs means no messing around when it comes to materials. Matthew Hilton mixes rich hardwood with cast iron to create this quiet-yet-strong desk. On the drawers you’ll find solid wood and dovetail joinery, while there’s more to the tabletop than meets the eye- a cable management system is found under hinged doors (secret compartment!). The two storage trays and pencil holder are available separately.

Minimal Float Wall Desk

A floating wall desk for under a grand might sound as likely as a hipster who’s never considered ironic facial hair, but stranger things have happened. The floating wall desk by Dario Antonioni is just under the $700 mark and has a full slide out tray to double your work area. There’s also a small wire management slot to keep your cords tidy. Need it be emphasized that you’ll have to follow the installation instructions correctly or you’ll have a small disaster at hand? If you’re not particularly handy, enlist help before tackling it on your own.

Mantis Desk

Perhaps you should take this desk’s name in reference to Mantises being highly visual organisms that are skilled in mimicry rather than their tendency for occasional sexual cannibalism, for the Mantis Desk does successfully blend in as a simple, modern workspace by hiding all manner of cables (via a discreet cable management system) and providing just enough space for notes and office supplies (see noteboard and drawer- there’s a double bookend as well). In multiples or alone, this desk would do well in keeping your officemates- or just you- organized and on task.

Legs Crossed Desk

Legs crossed or leapfrog, either way these legs are something different in desk design. Close inspection shows well constructed joints that ensure balance and stability despite the initial precarious impression. Side by side drawers will hold essentials while a two-toned oak and black walnut mix further add to the desk’s animated appearance.

Cobalt Blue Lacquer Desk

My goodness, take a look at the savings on this cobalt desk by John Reeves. With a regular price of $1895, the sale price of $1099 looks like one steal of a deal, especially considering that the bright blue color is thanks to lacquered panels (lacquer = work). Smooth, self closing runners and well considered proportions give this desk a refined feel, while the drawers and door give you access to appropriate storage space for a home office or dressing area.

Intimo Secretary Desk

Well, doesn’t this look promising? Compact desks are rather hard to find nowadays, so it’s refreshing to see one with a minimal design aesthetic that’s affordable. Plus, how lovely would it be just to close it all up once you’re done with your email/work? No tidying necessary, just close the hinge and you’ll not need to stare at your laptop and other miscellany. There’s a small storage shelf along the top and a hidden shelf along the bottom that will fit things like your laptop and phone.

Ping-Pong Conference Table

Brilliant! Now your conference table can also be a ping-pong table, thus saving space and encouraging ‘fun’ breaks for you and your team. The central panel either functions as the ping-pong net support or as a hide-away cable management, while drawers at either end house all the ping-pong (or meeting) supplies. How is this not a good idea?

Canteen Table Leg Set

Oh, what a predicament you’re in when you only need table legs. We’ve posted a few trestle options, but this Canteen set might just be the best alternative to the straight forward (and somewhat boring) IKEA legs. No need for a bracing system, as the leg fixes directly to the tabletop. Choose from 7 available colors. Each box includes 4 legs.

tld desk

This desk brings to mind the Primary Desk by Nathan Yong, doesn’t it? There’s a vast difference in pricing/materials/craftsmanship, of course, but they share the same idea of a small upper storage shelf. This desk by designer Jannis Ellenberger has hook-on storage: one white powdercoated shelf and lidded drawer that hang at any point along the ledge. (And, at $399 you definitely will save some serious cash compared to the Primary Desk at $1,800.)

JACK Table Legs

Table legs sold separately are always a good bet as you’re able to change out the surface to whatever suits your fancy. Plywood, wood, stone, glass, you name it, you can alter your desk/work top to whatever you want. These JACK table legs were named after the game jacks (reference there for you young things that have no idea) and will look excellent with whichever table top you prefer. The JACK legs are available in three finishes: Black, White, and shot blasted aluminum finish. And, if you’d like the table top included, there’s the complete Jack Table as well (custom sizes available, see website for more info).

Moorish Mosaic Table

Remember the Lagarta Stool? This table is from the same designer, Ana Mestre, and utilizes the same natural agglomerate cork, except this time the cork is printed with an intricate Moorish pattern inspired from the historical tiles of the city Beja.

Covet Desk

A glass top desk often appears sharp and sleek, but most lack drawers which can be a little annoying when it comes to desk miscellany. This desk has a drawer plus a storage solution built into its frame which solves that ‘where-do-I-put-my-paperclips-and-files’ question without sacrificing the clean look of a glass work surface. Available in Oak or Walnut.
