Grove Bamboo Back

Grove, best known for their beautifully crafted iPhone cases, recently released a new product to cozy-up our Macbooks. The Bamboo Backs are thin self-adhering bamboo veneers that stick to your laptop lid. Nothing particularly ground breaking or innovative in that regard, but what really does it for me is the custom cutouts that uses Apple’s glowing logo to create an extra accent piece. Check out their gallery for currently available cut-out graphics, or for a minimum order of ten, you can customize your own. Designed and made of sustainable bamboo in Portland Oregon.

Koostik Mini Koo iPhone Speaker

Building upon their original speaker design, Koostik expands their product offering to those looking for a slightly less expensive and smaller footprint speaker. The Mini Koo measures at just 3.5″ x 5″ x 1.5″, making it a good size for bedside tunes and to follow you on your travels. It makes use of natural passive amplification through its “trumpet horn” speaker port, and requires no power to operate. Available in solid walnut and cherry, finished with an orange oil & beeswax. iPostcard iPad Sleeve

Here’s an iPad sleeve that looks like a postcard from a special someone. Not that you need to pretend, of course, but it has a certain look that brings to mind an earlier era gone by (when people actually had to use handwriting to communicate). The leather-like paper is made from natural cellulose fiber and is water-resistant. A soft felt interior keeps your iPad safe.

Size: 28 x 22 cm.

John’s Phone

Talk about a bare bones cell phone, this puppy has no email, camera, texting, or ringtones. There’s no contract either, you just need a SIM card. Stripped to the essential ‘make a phone call’ feature, you can go anywhere and know you have global roaming (exception is South Korea and Japan’s 3G networks). Aaand, it has approximately 6 hours of talking time (and 3 week standby) before charging is needed. Lo-tech, indeed. Created by John Doe Amsterdam.

The Glif

Do you need yet another gadget for your iPhone? Maybe. This little guy makes your iPhone mountable on a tripod as well as giving you various viewing angles. It’s made from recyclable rubberized plastic and is small enough to fit in your pocket. Might make a good gift for a fellow photo-taking-iPhone-fan, perhaps?

Lounge Case

Incase sent out their new iPad case for review, and honestly, I have a mixed opinion. On one hand, the padded back adds a strange bulk to the normally sleek and slim device, which is just plain odd, and takes a while to get used to (it feels and sounds just like a small bean bag). On the other hand, it’s a lot more comfortable to use the iPad when lounging (hence, ‘Lounge’), as the padded back can be adjusted on your legs/lap for various viewing angles. It also works well for the same reason on a tabletop, as you can immediately push the iPad to whatever angle you want, and it stays put. I took a quick video so you can see what I mean (below). Overall, I’d say it’s well suited for use at home or on a desktop, as it makes the iPad more comfortable to use.

GRID-IT! Wrap

I’ve posted the GRID-IT before, but this is the GRID-IT! Wrap, which has an additional neoprene sleeve on the back that holds your Nook, Kindle, iPad, or laptop, depending on the size you choose. The wonderful elastic system of the GRID-IT! keeps all your cords and accessories organized as usual. Nice.

The Oona–multi use iphone tool

Kickstarter has a pretty cool project up for a for a multi-use smartphone tool which allows for mounting your phone on any number of surfaces which will accept a suction cup, such as your windshield, in the kitchen, on a bedside table or desktop. Even more interesting is that it can mount on a camera stand for using any number of time lapse apps for the iPhone on the market.

For a limited time (until June 3rd) you can fund the project for $25 and they will send you an Oona once production has begun. After the fund date an Oona can be purchased for $30.

You can get more information here.

iPhone Horn Stand

I’m seeing more and more of these passive-amplified (no power source needed) iPhone speakers lately. Check out our previously posted Koostik, a modest stereo speaker done in wood, and the Phonofone 3, an extravagant porcelain version that is just as much a sculpture piece as a useful amplifier. The Horn Stand takes the economical route and is made of molded silicone. While it’s the least expensive of the bunch, I personally feel it’s the most well designed, for it can be used in both landscape and portrait mode, and you can still charge / dock your phone while using it. Gotta love it’s portability too. Available in black, green, white, and light brown from a various retailers via Amazon.

HandStand iPad Holder

This ‘handy’ stand does more than just protect your iPad; it features a strap for ergonomic comfort and it rotates so you can easily change views. I’m tempted to put an exclamation point after that last sentence, because it does look incredibly effortless and functional. Your hand remains in a comfortable position while switching the iPad between portrait or landscape, and you can show the screen to others around you with just one hand. See the video below for an example.

TravelTeq iPad Case

Update: 20% discount on TravelTeq’s iPad Case (for the first iPad, not the new one). € 180 instead of € 225, which is a tad more affordable.

Is this the mother of all iPad cases, or what? Luxury doesn’t come cheap, but it sure looks nice. The TravelTeq case is handmade from Florentine Vacchetta leather and is adjustable to 3 different positions. If you’ve ever had a favorite leather bag, you know that this case is going to wear well and develop that nice patina… and if it lasts longer and looks better than other cases, maybe it’s worth every penny. Maybe.

Photojojo Classic Leather Camera Satchel

Photojojo offers relief to the world of drab black plastic camera bags with their Classic Leather Camera Satchel. An all leather exterior houses a padded interior fitted for a camera and lenses, as well as a laptop sleeve for 13” laptops. Two front pockets as well as a zippered rear pocket keep the small things organized while you snap away. I don’t even have a nice enough camera that would warrant owning such a handsome bag but it looks suitable for doing double duty for carrying about town as well.
