Bowls Trays

Bias Tray

If you fall in love with all things angular, here’s a trapezoid tray that will tickle your fancy. While it was made to live on the accompanying Bias Large Ottoman, you might do better by mixing things up a bit and putting it on top of a credenza or dresser to corral smaller items. However, do keep in mind this is one large tray (32.25″ W X 22.5″ D), so it might only fit on a large ottoman if your other case goods tend towards the small size.

Perimeter Trays

It’s not often that a tray will make you sit up and take notice, but this Perimeter Tray designed by by Dylan Davis and Jean Lee of Ladies and Gentlemen Studio has some of us wondering if we have an extra $200 to conjure out of our wallets. A removable marble plate is perfect for cheese, if you choose to use it in the kitchen/dining regions of your home. Choose between an aluminum (red + black) or brass (white + brass) frame.

Cork Tray

It’s a cork tray. You might think it’s a little ho-hum/boring, but I’d wager a guess it would be entirely useful when it comes to shuttling things back and forth from the kitchen to table (or sofa, if that’s your preferred spot). Cork is renewable and recyclable, as you know, but the main function here is that it would keep your cups of tea/biscuits/etc. from sliding around and making a mess. However, if you should spill, no worries, as it can be wiped clean with a wet cloth.

Chinoiserie Tray

Spring fever is now spreading fast and furious, and this tray might just fit the bill for adding some visual greenery in your home. Åry has been manufacturing birch wood trays in Sweden for over 50 years, and with Michael Angove’s drawing as its decoration, it’s a winner for sure.

Cross Tray Birch

Call me crazy, but I like the birch version of this tray so much more than the white. Thankfully, the tray is much less than the Cross and Crux blankets, so there’s hope of adding it to one’s home decor sooner rather than later. There’s also a smaller size (31 cm) for 250kr, which works out to be around $37.

Appo Tray

This tray/bottle stopper is something to consider, as it gives empty (or half empty) bottles a purpose. There’s an especially nice option when using several different types of bottles with different heights, as it would give your table a useful centerpiece for hors d’oeuvres (aka appetizers) while saving space. Designed by Carlo Trevisani for Seletti, the Appo Tray is made from cork.

Mango Wood Plate

Originally $39, this mango wood plate is on sale now for 40% off, which makes it even more affordable. Considering the size, it would make a great catch-all near the front door for mail, keys, etc. Plus, it’s always nice to have some natural elements scattered around a modern home; it keeps interiors from looking too stuffy and perfect.

Bowl measures approximately 11″ in diameter and 1.5″ tall.

“Adjust-a-Bowl” Soft Cork Bowl

I have an aversion to fruit bowls, or rather, an aversion to styled fruit bowls; mainly I blame the first issue of Dwell and the manifesto found within. It planted a little seed of awareness, and ever since I’ve shied away from piling fruit up within a bowl, preferring to let it sit in disarray on my counter. I made a semi-conscious decision to let my home look lived in- not too perfect or too organized- and this tiny little decision was a sort of a symbolic flipping of ‘the bird’ (a la Flight Of the Conchords) to all those perfect shellacked photos that I wondered (and sometimes drooled) over in shelter magazines.

Concrete Bowls for BETONIU by Stephan Schulz

I came across the portfolio site of Stephan Schulz today and these concrete bowls made me do a double take.

They reflect the light just like polished natural stone, they feel comfortable and smooth cradled in your hands. The lips of the bowls – only a few millimeters thick – show that concrete is a material that can be used for the finest work, at the same time demonstrating where its limits lie; here, it has been taken to its limit.

Setting a minimalist accent, this set of four hand-made bowls presents an apparently everyday material in a new context. The bowls have a mobile quality; playing with the usual cliché of the hard rigidity and weight of concrete; they can rock back and forth, while drawing their stability from the increasing wall thickness towards the base.
