Tabletop

Upstate Collection, Constantin Boym 2002

I like these so much I can hardly stand to talk about them. At first glance, these plates look like the picturesque towns and touristy places, but, upon closer inspection you notice that you don’t really know what’s going on. All of these plates are digital decal prints (on ceramic) of nondescript places in upstate New York. Telephone wires, ‘wrong’ cars on the road, and other odd things make these odd plates really quite wonderful. (Two more are available, just not shown here.)

Each plate is numbered from a limited edition of 300.

Full/Fill Bottle

The MoMA does an apt job of describing this vase, and since my brain is fuzzy I’ll let them give you the low-down:

“An inventive recycling of a familiar shape, this piece celebrates the industrial aesthetic of plastic packaging. The designer fashions this clever interpretation of the now ubiquitous water bottle in crystal-clear glass, resulting in a striking vase for flowers, carafe for water or other beverages. Hand washing recommended. Not intended for microwave use.”

Stemmarkers by Eric Janssen

These clever little glass trackers were designed by Eric Janssen. You clip them on to your glass rim/ stem so that everybody knows which glass belongs to whom. Handy, huh? And, please don’t take offense, but these are much better than those wire things that you have to fasten on and jingle around.

as unica puts it:
“janssen displays a no-nonsense approach to form, often derived from simplified geometry or a particular method of production. his keen interest in materials, emphasis on product functionality, and subtle sense of humor also factor largely in his work.”
