TUKAANI

While this utensil is most certainly classified as a ‘luxury good’, I would be very curious to see/hear if it’s worth the price tag.

The sterling silver TUKAANI is a hand made eating device for Asian food consumers in the West.
It may be held as traditional chopsticks. But unlike the disposable wooden chopsticks, TUKAANI is hand washable and much easier to set on – and use at table.
The matt surface and taut movement allow steady grip in the hand. The curl at the end of the TUKAANI provides eased food picking and delivery to the mouth. The loop also allows easier hanging, storage and display.
The Toucan’s bill provided inspiration for this cutlery project

Nordic Rock: Stone Ice Cubes

I’d be afraid of forgetting and chomping down out of habit like real ice, but I guess you’d only do that once.

Nordic Rock is mined from ancient Swedish pollution-free base rock. It is the purest way of cooling your drink – literally ‘on the rocks’. Stone does not melt, which means no unclean water in your glass. They are also reusable making them very eco-friendly.
To use, simply place the stone ice cubes in the freezer for approximately one hour before use. For a normal glass, two or three Nordic Rocks will be fine. They give off their cold gradually and equally.
For maintenance, rinse your stones under clean water and store them in the leather pouch provided. They are then ready to serve you again any time to your fullest satisfaction.

Comes as a set of ten complete with leather storage pouch.

Pott 33 Flatware (5 piece set)

Designed in 1975, this flatware set has some sensible attributes to be sure (if only it were a tad bit more sensible price wise too…).

Carl Pott dedicated his career to studying the ergonomics of eating and using what he learned to design innovative flatware…To create the five-tined fork, which was an innovation when it was introduced, Pott extended its width and made the shape slightly spooned. These changes made for easier scooping of sauces and vegetables, like peas. The knife has a micro-serrated edge for cutting, and each piece has a fine groove at the end of each handle. “I am far from granting flatware more importance than it deserves,” said Pott. “However, as a daily tool, assuming it is functional and aesthetically pleasing, it is one of the cornerstones of our culture. How can we reach the summit, when the foundation of that which is ours, our home and our tools, is not solid, full of clarity and beauty?” Pott 33 is made of 18/10 stainless steel and each piece is handcrafted by artisans at a company of remarkable pedigree…The five piece set includes a knife, tablespoon, teaspoon, dinner fork, and salad fork. Made in Germany.

Summer Porcelain Cup Set

Seeing as the summer is drawing to a close, it’s time to savor those evenings sipping refreshments. Why not do it in style from hand sculpted black and white etched cups? (Of course, it takes little investigative work to see these would be more appropriate for a discerning collector than in a child’s hand…)

Spot the odd one out! Painting the interior of one of the cups yellow, Rosaria Rattin sees no rules in ceramic design; she approaches each porcelain surface as if boldly printing fabric. Each cup is delicately sculpted and etched by hand, creating lines and shapes with individual character. Set of six assorted porcelain cups with a hint of lemon.

Pressure Sake Pitcher

This is a lovely sake pitcher with slight indentions for ease of use.

The simple idea behind the Pressure Sake Pitcher was to create a handle less pitcher. This is achieved by replacing the handle with two indentations that fit one’s hand when grasping this object. The resulting design solution takes a functional form. Pressure Sake Pitcher can be paired with the Nub Sake Cups.

Lily Pond Sushi Set

This sushi set certainly evokes a lily pond; I like how the forms are handled simply and how they manage to be fun in an understated, elegant way.

It is important to remember that the objects presented here, just like the ones in the Chin Family, characters or flowers and fruits, each performing the roles of domestic household objects, are made partly in hand-decorated plastic and partly in fine bone china, also hand-decorated. The magic of Giovannoni’s design lies in the fact that these objects recall the grace of 18th century ceramic trinkets, while at the same time being utterly contemporary…

Sushi set composed of: plate and chopsticks in melamine, small plate for soy sauce and chopsticks holder in fine bone china. Hand-decorated.
