Steamer Basket

My favorite items are simple, beautiful, and functional…all of which apply to this basket.

“When we found this steamer basket we each thought, wow, cool basket, what is it for and then each of us came up with a variety of things to do with it: holding papers, fruit basket, beautiful object for the shelf, steaming food etc. Technically it is designed for steaming food by placing it in a pot with a small amount of water underneath, just as one would with any steamer. It is also nice for serving tempura with a small white paper between the basket and the tempura. We can think of a 100 ways to use this basket and are certain you will too. At the end of the day it is a beautiful object that takes on many applications.”

Birthday Cake Mould

I like the idea of this ‘happy birthday’ cake mold, though I guess you’d have to leave off the frosting?

Hola Ola No 1

This looks like such a handy thing to put all sorts of food stuffs in.

A pre-molded soft silicone pot, 2″ wide and 3.5″ high (50 x 87 mm) that you squeeze, it opens, you fill it, you release the pressure, it closes. You need it? Squeeze it, it opens, a little shake and it pours, release it and it closes again. So smart.

Keru Keru

I’m not one to claim I know my way around the kitchen, but I can honestly say that this looks to be pretty handy.

Just transfer your liquids into the bottle, a flick of the wrist has the liquid in the cap and you are perfectly positioned to transfer perfect amounts into what ever you are cooking up. Whether it’s hot or cold, they work like a charm and because they are glass and silicone, they love your dishwasher and exit in pristine condition…

Pasta and Parmesan Tool

If you eat pasta often, this might just make the task a little more streamlined.

Sagaform’s latest piece of Scandinavian design is a simple device which combines three kitchen tools in one. First, the handle end of the tool can be used for measuring out portions pasts, secondly the “fork” end of the tool is used to pick up your pasta and sauce, and finally you can grate your parmesan using the built-in grater. Simple and functional, another great-value item from Sagaform.

Fill the base with water, and slightly submerge the ends in the water well. Prolongs their life while showcasing their natural beauty. Witches’ Kitchen

Hmm…does anyone else find the set of ‘extra hands’ to be a little bit creepy?

This extensive collection of kitchenware was inspired by the witches and wizards of Western lore. Originally designed by Tord Boontje, each piece was then handcrafted by artisans in one of three South American countries: Colombian artisans hand-molded the black ceramic cookware, Guatemalan craftsmen handcarved the wooden kitchen utensils, and Brazilโ€™s Coopa-Roca womenโ€™s cooperative hand-sewed the kitchen couture. Infused with a strong sense of local tradition, this collaborative effort in sustainable design succeeds in preserving the folkloric nature of witchery… without, of course, any of the lingering stigma.

Folding Colander

Space-saving kitchen gadgets are always a smart idea.

“Over 100 prototypes were made before the Folding Colander was finally perfected… but, given its space-saving capacities, it was well worth the wait! 12 polypropylene living hinges are incorporated in the design so that, when you put it away, it can be folded completely flat for easy storage. Looks like practice does make perfect after all…”

Stick in a Box

While this looks to be very useful, and quite clever considering the shape of both ends, I can’t help but think of chimpanzees using a simple stick to get ants out of a log. It’s much more civilized, of course. The title is what threw me into chimp thoughts.

“This beautiful, functional tool comes in a transparent box featuring a typographic wordplay in black lettering along with suggestions for use. STIR POT – FLIP STEAK – SCOOP JAR – SLICE CAKE – BUTTER TOAST – CHECK SAUCE – SCRAPE BOTTOM – STOP DOOR – SCRATCH BACK – FEEL GOOD. It’s uses are limited only by your imagination.”
