Pig Speaker by Idea

Too cute. Not only do I eat pork, but I think they’re totally adorable as inanimate objects. Conflict of interest with earthy-crunchy types? Maybe, but I’d rather this than a talking carrot. Barry White’s “Never, Never Gonna Give You Up” just took on new meaning.

Material: Ceramic
Designer: Idea
Dimensions: 3.5 x 7.25 x 4 inches
Available in black, white, and gold

Wood Boxes with Lacquered Lids

I’ve never been into West Elm’s style ever, a bit too drab and generally unexciting for me. However they’re definitely on the right track here with these new wood boxes. Woodgrain combined with super glossy lacquer is a great combination.

Price: $29.00

Postcards from Penguin

Do you know how Penguin books got started? Well, here you go*.

A shortened version for those of you too lazy to click on the link:

A collection of 100 postcards, each featuring a different and iconic Penguin book jacket. From classics to crime, here are over seventy years of quintessentially British design in one box. In 1935 Allen Lane stood on a platform at Exeter railway station, looking for a good book for the journey to London. His disappointment at the poor range of paperbacks on offer led him to found Penguin Books. The quality paperback had arrived. Declaring that ‘good design is no more expensive than bad’, Lane was adamant that his Penguin paperbacks should cost no more than a packet of cigarettes, but that they should always look distinctive.

Also available here for £14.99.

Erasers (with quotes)

Maybe it’s the soft lighting in these photos, but these erasers seem like the perfect small gift for anyone that still uses pencil and paper.

not shown: “I never make misteaks.” “Don’t give up!”

Fabriano Artist’s Journal

Does this slightly crinkled journal elicit any cravings to pick up a pencil and draw? Or perhaps writing down your daily thoughts is more your style? Either way the colorful pages might tempt you to spend a bit more time with a pen or pencil rather than your keyboard.

Parafernalia Falter 2D Designer Pen

Otherwise known as ‘the pen that you make’, this pen is handmade out of industrial steel. The snap apart template includes elements to make a ball point pen, stand and mini ruler. Now, you ask, why in the world would you pay $40 for a pen that you have to make when there’s a dozen perfectly good bic pens at your disposal? Good question. For the tinkering, I suppose, or for the novelty. I found more pics and info at Visual Streak, if you’re interested.

Storyboard Book

So the Storyboard Book won’t win any awards for originality. Moleskine has been making their own pocket storyboard notebook for a while now. But what the Storyboard Book lacks, it sure makes up for it with presentation. Because, well, just look at those graphics and bright yellow cover! Who would pick a plain black notebook over this one?

A lightweight, portable, and durable sketchbook for storyboarding, sketching, listmaking, visualization, plans, doodles, and just about anything else. The idea is simple: a frame for the action and space for notes, story, dialog, stage directions, enemies lists, etc.  The Storyboard Book is designed to be used as a personal sketchbook, but also sized to be handy for  project notes and ideas.

$10.00 for a 3 pack, $15.00 for 5.

Moleskine Colour A Month Daily Planner Box Set

T minus 24 hours until the official gift unwrapping begins, so if you’re still rushing around like a chicken with its head cut off, maybe snap some of these up from your local bookstore and call it a day. Moleskines are great, and despite the mixed reviews on this set, they’re pretty much the perfect gift for artists and note takers, or just someone that always seems unorganized (don’t say that to their face though).
