Cameroon Headdress

Call me a nutcase, but I have always wanted one of these, and have never seen any for sale until now. The texture and color and the sheer size…The only thing that keeps me from buying one right this second (for real) is the ‘more colors coming soon.’ (blue? black?)

“Their beautiful texture and vibrant color create a unique addition to any room. This special headdress is made of African bird feathers and has its own built-in self storage capacity, as the entire headdress can be turned inside out, with the feathers protected by inverted fiber cap.”

Available in Red. More colors coming soon.
13 inches tall, and is 29 inches in diameter when opened.

‘Damn the Man’ by Henry Reeve

If you’d like to own some original stencil style graffiti art but can’t afford the art star(s), you’re in luck. This one is affordable as far as art goes, and the ‘spray-paint-plus-English-portrait’ is interesting and has just enough edginess.

“Henry’s spray art is a send up of classical English portraiture…Henry Reeve Designs and hand cuts each stencil, and then applies and sprays each one himself. For 66degrees.com, this small edition of 20 images will be applied to high quality artist’s paper…Each edition will ship with a certificate of authenticity, numbered and signed by the artist.”

touche du bois / cubes

Domestic, a French company is teaming up with a bunch of cool designers (Jeremy Scott, Marcel Wanders, Kaws, Ich&Kar, etc.) to make some really cool wall appliquรจs. I like these floating cubes a lot.

“Ich&Kar, a tandem of graphic designers who cast an outlandish but qualified gaze on a range of subjects as varied as fashion, gastronomy, music, design and arcchitecture from luxury to consumer goods. Creators of messages and imaginative images turned into visual identity, their aim is to inspire sense with lightness and humour.”

Corner Frame

This would definitely add a little quirky interest to a corner. I’m thinking I’d like to frame my old prom picture with the corner right between me and my date. What was his name again?

Online Framing, Art

Recently I tried out imagekind, and I have to say the whole experience turned out rather well. They have all sorts of art you can choose from, with many different frames and mats, ‘canvas’ prints, or you can use your own pictures (I chose the story frame format). You’re able to preview different options immediately, which is a little addictive, and they ship it directly to your door. I can definitely say it beat the hell out of running to and from a regular framing shop. I love the internet.

(apologies for my poor compilation above)

While Roost has done many a carved animal, including a Carved Wood Deer Head and many wall-worthy Carved Wood Trophy Heads, now they’ve applied their expertise to a collection of birds.

“Various carved wood birds flock together in Roost’s feather-free

hand-carved from solid basswood. The wood is left unfinished to
highlight its natural grain. Minor assembly required.”

Design Public Crew / Los Angeles / Photobooths

Last night, Design Public’s Matt & Drew (middle & right) and I were all hanging out in Wallpaper’s Best City of 2008, Los Angeles, for a little Standard Hotel / 7Grand / Dresden Room / House of Pies action, when I forced the guys into a photobooth.

I love photobooths because the resulting pictures look fairly consistent regardless of time period. I have a pretty good collection of photo strips, starting with one of me and my mom when I’m 4 years old. I’ve been wanting to find a good way to display them, and I was thinking of enlarging them and putting them on my wall, almost like wallpaper. I recently discovered that someone’s already done that, and it looks pretty great.

Dreamgate Headboard/Wall Art

This light, modernist wall application reinterprets the headboard, a traditionally heavy furniture piece. The surface of reinforced cork is screenprinted by hand, graphically inspired by star formations and vintage tufted leather furniture. As a headboard or art object, the long proportion encourages creative placement in any environment. Dreamgate is reusable and can be trimmed easily to fit beds ranging from children’s to king size. Self-adhesive, non-marring backing makes installation simple.

Materials: Reclaimed cork from the bottle-stopper industry and water based ink

Dimensions: 2’h x 10’w x 1/8″d, Weight: 4lbs

Purchase Information:

Price: $160.00

Domestic Trophies

Here’s a fuzzy art piece that’s quite a different take on the traditional hunting trophy. Rachel Denny hand makes these trophies in her studio, so each will be unique in color and pattern. There’s also some angora rabbits she’s working on that are worth taking a look at.

Domestic Trophy (deer mount) series are between $500 and $600 depending on size and intricacy.
