Library Card Tote Bag

Library Card Tote Bag

Do you recognize the card image on this tote bag? Congratulations, you are officially old and wise. If you don’t immediately recognize it, then I’ll do the patronizing thing and explain it to you as if you were an idiot a child.

Many, many years ago, before the internet was absolutely essential widely used, people would drive or walk to the library, which was a building full of books- hardbound or paperback books (you had to actually turn many paper pages to get information!). I won’t get into the card catalog- that’s for another day- but, in order to take home books to read, you had to bring the books to the main check out desk, remove a library card (similar to the image on the tote bag above) from a pocket affixed to the inside front cover/page of each book, and then a librarian would stamp the card with the return date and write your name. Or maybe you could write your own name. It was so long ago I don’t remember exactly. If you didn’t return the book by the due date, you would be fined. There, now, do you understand? You’d better, because I’m exhausted.

Anyways, if you choose to make this tote apart of your functional wardrobe, please have friends fill in their names and the date on which you met them for coffee/drinks/shenanigans. You’d have to be the author, of course, and come up with a clever title, which, of course, you will, because you’re exceptionally clever.
