CDT Universal Scissors & Desk Set

CDT’s workspace tools have me itching to update my desktop accessories.

“The CDT Universal Scissors (2006) are a true example of form following
function – their universal appeal lies in their ability to be used by
left- and right-handed people alike. The unique shape is crafted
entirely from brushed stainless steel. Craft Design Technology (CDT) is
a Japanese company that’s very much an expression of today’s global
design culture.”

Alice Park Felt Office/Desk Set

These would be just the thing to jump start some desk organization.

“Hand-made entirely of felt, these handy grey and green boxes have inset
areas to place pens and pencils, rubber bands, paper clips or any other
small pieces of desktop detritus. The more-organized user can fold the
boxes in half to cover their coveted supplies, while a freer soul can
leave them open, perhaps allowing small binder clips to mingle with the
thumbtacks. Modular and aesthetically quiet, these simple rectilinear
shapes are sized to scale, providing an invaluable organizational tool.”

Grey felt, 80% wool, 20% nylon; green felt, 100% wool.

Small box (two included), closed: H 1.5″ W 3.25″ D 3.25″, open: H .75″ W 6.75″ D 3.25″

Folle Wall Calendar

As always, it is my duty to inform you of any decent perpetual calendars. I’d say this qualifies and exceeds expectations with its spare and functional design.

“Is time linear? The Folle Wall Calendar (1982) says yes, offering an
innovative way to measure time, with the days of the month presented in
a straight line. A red pointer that slides along the top, above cobalt
blue numbers, adjusts to the current day. Two holes on either end allow
this perpetual calendar to be hung above your workspace, a reminder
that even everyday objects like a calendar can transcend the mundane.
Made in Denmark.”

These are something special.

“Unfinished and Unpublished is a limited-edition collection of notebooks created in collaboration between StudioMatador and international artists and designers. Limited to 500 per design and packaged in a custom box with wraparound sticker. The covers are black hard board with a white gloss finish. 192 pages of mixed colored and computer paper.”

Choose from ‘High School Doodles’ (darker cover, on left) by Alex Denman and Shane Thomson or ‘Spring and All’ (lighter cover, on right) by Isis&Pluto.

I’ve recently just been introduced to the amazingly simple, functional art items by Metaphys out of Japan. From left to right, paper clip holder, tape dispenser and rubber band holder. It would create an interesting landscape on one’s desk.

Entirely useful and amusing, this notebook will be sure to capture your thoughts without ever getting too serious.

This notebook conveniently keeps big ideas from getting lost. Includes 20 cocktail napkins, spiral bound with one ball point pen.’

Grid-It Notepad

I saw these a few months back and was disappointed when they weren’t available-but now they are! If you don’t “get” why grids are great, you’ll just have to trust me, they are.

“Each one is based on a famous grid system that changed the history of design. (Lots of background reading on grids at http://www.artofthegrid.com)
Choose from Le Corbusier’s Le Modulor (grid based on mathematics and the human body), Paul Rand’s A Designer’s Art (three column layout) or Jan Tschichold’s Die Neue Typographie (right-hand page layout). These are the front three pads, from left to right, in the main image. 60 sheets per pad printed in light blue ink.”

Portrait Landscape Book

This is such a smart idea- you can choose portrait or landscape (or anything in between) all in the same sketchbook.

“Each of the 210 pages is cut to a different size, starting with the standing portrait format (18,4 x 13,3 cm), which gradually mutates to the lying landscape format (13,3 x 18,4 cm).
The sketchbook was hand bound in the Netherlands in a signed and limited edition of 500 and each sketchbook is individually packaged in a very pretty box.”
