Cats Let Nothing Darken Their Roar 2011

I keep threatening to get one of these for myself, and I figure I best follow through this year. As usual, each month features strange phrases that have the letters of the month highlighted, making for an unusual text-based artwork above your desk or in your office. Oh, also, this year a small black pencil is included for noting events.

Date Ruler by André Klauser

I posted this a while ago, but seeing as it is now available stateside it’s worth a second look.

If you had the right sort of metal ruler and circular magnets, you might be able to replicate this yourself, or you could just spend £15 and get this one (thereby supporting the designer who thought up the idea in the first place).

2011 Animal Calendar

Wha?? 2011 calendars are coming out already? At least these six white paper animals are cute, and sort of diffuses the panic of yet another year creeping up oh-so-fast. A one-month calendar is on each side of every animal, with simple assembly required (no glue or scissors needed).

Moleskine Colour A Month Daily Planner Box Set

T minus 24 hours until the official gift unwrapping begins, so if you’re still rushing around like a chicken with its head cut off, maybe snap some of these up from your local bookstore and call it a day. Moleskines are great, and despite the mixed reviews on this set, they’re pretty much the perfect gift for artists and note takers, or just someone that always seems unorganized (don’t say that to their face though).

Calendar 2010 (Ghin)

Instead of laying out the year in a grid, this one takes a circular approach. Plus, a lunar calendar is fitted in there too, so you’ll know when you’re going to change into a werewolf.

I decided to lay out the calendar on a single page, making it possible to view the whole year at a glance. Thus enabling the viewer to start making new associations between events and time in general. A lunar calendar is integrated into the layout making it easy to see full and new moons. –ghin.co.uk

Each Calendar is printed on 170gsm semi gloss paper.

urbnCal 2010 Stockholm

Sure, you could get any ol’ calendar from a big box bookstore with kittens or puppies, but this one might look a bit cooler and be a tad more interesting (nothing against kittens or puppies, of course).

We have zoomed in on the numbers of the city. In urbnCal every date get its own image, an image of a number. JollyGoodFellow (Esa and Lisa Tanttu) has biked and walked through various parts of Stockholm and photographed dresses/numbers plates. The wall calendar is printed in A3 (11,7×16,5 in) one sheet per month. Put the whole stack on a nail, or put the sheets side by side and you’ll get a general view of the year

Cats Let Nothing Darken Their Roar 2010

I’ve loved this calendar ever since I first saw it. Maybe this year I’ll actually get around to buying one.

For five years the calendar Cats Let Nothing Darken Their Roar has introduced new, odd, and strange phrases every month. It started with 30 modest copies in 2006, to over a million in 2007, as it came out from the huge rotary printers of the daily newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, to 500 copies today. This year, to celebrate its 5th anniversary, it will be available in a Special Large 50 x 70 cm. size as well as in its Standard A3 format, each in a numbered edition of 500.

Standard A3 format 29 x 42cm : $32.00

Advent Calendar

This will help you count down the days in style…(by the way, I ran across something like this in a picture of someone’s loft and they used it more as a sculptural item than a holiday decoration and it really worked…wish I could remember where it was.)

Build enthusiasm for Christmas by building this Advent Calendar upward. A modern take on a traditional decoration, 24 cylindrical boxes stack on top of each other to create a stylized red cardboard holiday tree. Place a small gift or snack under each box, revealing a surprise each day as you get closer to Christmas. A red foil number on the side of each box tells you what day you’re on and the whole calendar can nest inside itself for compact storage during the rest of the year.

Folle Wall Calendar

As always, it is my duty to inform you of any decent perpetual calendars. I’d say this qualifies and exceeds expectations with its spare and functional design.

“Is time linear? The Folle Wall Calendar (1982) says yes, offering an
innovative way to measure time, with the days of the month presented in
a straight line. A red pointer that slides along the top, above cobalt
blue numbers, adjusts to the current day. Two holes on either end allow
this perpetual calendar to be hung above your workspace, a reminder
that even everyday objects like a calendar can transcend the mundane.
Made in Denmark.”
