My New Flame

An LED ‘candle’ that never burns down sounds pretty fantastic, even if the price point is way beyond what most of us would want to spend. A black or red circuit board has 128 tiny LEDs on each side that renders the image of a flickering candle flame. A warm color temperature makes the flame look quite realistic despite the obvious circuitry, thus creating a nice tension between traditional lighting and recent technology. What a nice night light this would be…

Designed by Moritz Waldemeyer for Ingo Maurer.

– circuit board, metal, plastic double-sided display, each with 128 LEDs, 5volts. on/off switch in base plate. Powered by 4 AA batteries max 1.5 volts (batteries not included), rechargeable batteries recommended.

“In Milan and New York, the installation Candles in the Wind fascinated many of our visitors in spring 2012. The lighting object is made from 100 LED ‘candles’. Each one has been programmed to produce an individual, smooth rhythm of movement.”
