The delicate smattering of dots add such a nice touch to these tumblers.
Petite tumblers are made from a creamy white or matte black porcelain and handpainted with a constellation of dots. The shapes vary from almost cylindrical (white) to fairly oval (black) due to how the porcelain behaves in the kiln. Fits nicely in the hand to hold your morning orange juice.Designer: White Bike Ceramics, Brooklyn, NY 3 1/2" high, 2 3/8" diameter (note: picture on right shows large tumblers) [posted by katie]

Two particularly fine examples of Sarah Cihat's Rehabilitated Dishware:
Artist Sarah Cihat takes once mundane thrift store dishes and reglazes/fires them after reviving their surfaces with vibrant colors and iconic silhouettes. By giving these discarded items a new look and a new life, Cihat is making a subtle statement on the importance of recycling and rePurposing products.Mug 09, $40.00, Buy it here. The Eco Ware line is the result of experimenting with biodegradeable plastics made from compressed natural materials such as byproducts of coconut, rice and bamboo processing. Tom Dixon created this line of biodegradeable plates, bowls and cups dubbed Eco Ware . This elegant line of sustainable tableware is 85% bamboo bound with a water-soluble polymer.
Eco Ware is fine enough for formal occasions, tough enough for the outdoors, and robust enough for every-day use. The best part is that after a long functional life (5 years give or take), the Eco Ware objects can be recyled into plant pots or simply composted back to the earth. The delicate line drawing on this tumber is just enough detail, plus, it's New York City, so who wouldn't like that?
"Crafted by hand using partially recycled glass, this tumbler shows the iconic New York City skyline in a simple line drawing. The hand blowing process used to create the tumbler results in subtle ripples and striations, adding to the individuality of each piece. Hand-wash recommended." Size: 3.5h x 3.3"diam. These are absolutely lovely, no doubt about it, but man, you'd think they'd almost be too precious to use.

This stoneware collection seems to balance a modern aesthetic with a natural sensibility. The plates can double as lids for bowls, serving bowls are oven-safe casseroles, and (my favorite) the cups have a lid that's perfect for holding a tea bag or small snack.
"Combining versatility, smart design and good stewardship of the earth's resources, the stoneware assortment comprises several differently sized "cylinders." Although each cylinder size has been given a name, that doesn't need to dictate its use. The stoneware's enamel is hand-applied and made entirely from all-natural minerals. The coordinating utensil set has a pared-down aesthetic and is crafted from sustainable wood from well-managed forests. Stoneware is dishwasher, oven and microwave safe. Made in France." crafted from natural stoneware and mineral enamel. I wonder how well wood conducts heat? I'm tempted to buy these; they look so comfortable to hold, plus, they seem more natural than the ceramic mugs we're all used to.
"Keyaki wood is a Japanese elm and has been much prized for centuries by Japanese woodworkers for the dramatic and beautiful grain. Each teacup is carved from a single block of wood and has a unique pattern. They are light and wonderful to hold in the hand. Set of 4." [posted by katie]
