Designed by acclaimed Italian designer Tino Novati to have a "light and flying" aesthetic, the Icaro Bed (2001) stands at least four inches taller than most standard platform beds (platform is 12" tall). The result is a lofty aesthetic and a design that facilitates entering and exiting the bed. The wood Icaro Bed features beautifully grained walnut veneer, seamlessly applied over the entire frame. A small 3" shelf runs the perimeter of both beds, framing the slightly inset mattress.

Murphy Beds are great for multi-purpose rooms and space saving. But they're a little expensive and can be pretty ugly. Over at Moddi Murphy Beds you can buy instructions for how to make your own with parts totaling less than $275. The best part about it is that since it's DIY, you can select your own outer finish or wood type.

The Elemento Bed's headboard slopes slightly back for reading, and also comes with a removable slipcover for easy cleaning.

I really like how the design of the legs are an extension of the bed itself and not just slapped on there.

It's hard to come by a modern bed that hits under the $1G mark, and this one is surprisingly stylish. If I didn't know the price, I would guess it to be at least twice as much.

This is a great piece which allows for a hidden murphy bed and a great sofa all in one unit. It comes from across the pond, so if you really want it be prepared to pay a pretty penny.
