I might be late on the bandwagon to see Emily Fischer’s Soft-Maps, but it’s better late than never. Her to-scale maps quilted onto blankets are pretty wonderful. Custom orders are available and word on the street is that the quilts make excellent gifts for big life events (weddings, etc.). Readymade has an HDYGTFAJ interview with her, I recommend it.

Sorry if you’ve seen this before, but Jimmy McBride’s quilts are ridiculously wonderful and it would be horrible if there wasn’t at least some small mention on our site. They almost inspire you to pick up some fabric and attempt at some space-inspired quilts of your own, right?

Prices seem to be around $1,750.00-$2,000.00 for a Child’s 38″ x 50″ Quilt*.

*I don’t know about you, but for that price, that sucker is going on a wall, not on a kid’s bed (unless they are very very cold, of course).

Virtue Blanket -- $ 208.00| Buy it here

As some of you might be aware, wedding season is fast approaching. If you’re looking for a gift for upcoming nuptials, you should (of course) get them something off their registry. However, if the couple has thumbed their noses at the tradition of registering (or if you’re a stickler for putting thought and effort into every gift), then maybe something like this would be a perfect thing to wish them well.

The Virtue blanket (155 cm x 210 cm) is finely knitted using high quality, undyed Icelandic wool. It warms us, at the same time reminding us to be virtuous. The pattern is derived from the decorations on the virtue cloths reworked in a contemporary style, but with the historical background of the virtue cloths in mind. It is a symmetrical, abstract form that each individual can interpret in his or her own way.
