The compromise for the added convenience is that the legs are not individually adjustable. Certainly not for the serious photographer crowd, but should work well for everyone else. Now how long does it take to refold it? Hmm…

Paint Can Pinhole Camera

Paint Can Pinhole Camera -- $ 19.45| Buy it here

I just saw this at a local store. You can always make your own pinhole camera out of materials laying around the house, but if you haven’t got the time this could be a fun gift to buy for yourself. Plus, you have to appreciate that the packaging is the product itself.

The Paint Can Pinhole Camera was developed and patented by Jim Kosinski.

The Paint Can Pinhole Camera is the simplest of cameras. Each can is drilled with a precision pinhole aperture (0.5mm), and is ready for immediate use. Just load a sheet of photographic paper or film and expose it! Available in both Quart (5″ H x 4 1/4″ diameter) and Gallon (7 1/2″ H x 6 1/2″ diameter) sizes with a magnetic shutter and a complete user guide enclosed. Because of its simplicity, the Paint Can Pinhole Camera provides room for experimenting and learning more about basic photographic processes. Made in the USA.

For more, visit Paint Can Camera.
Also, here’s Step by Step Instructions.

PowerFilm Rollable Solar Charger

PowerFilm Rollable Solar Charger -- $ 99.95| Buy it here

You know, for when you’re lost in the desert (or camping, as the case most likely will be). Or maybe you’ll use it daily if you get enough sunshine through your window.

This rollable charger can provide power to your cellphone, GPS, MPS, and other devices. Originally developed for the military, PowerFilm’s paper-thin, integrated solar panels are manufactured with a proprietary process that makes them truly rollable–unlike other thin film technologies that are only somewhat flexible. Their solar panels are monolithically integrated, eliminating the damage-prone manual connections of individual solar cells.

Power/Current: 5 Watts, 15.4 Volts, 0.3 Amps
11.5″ x 21″ (unrolled). 11.5″ x 4″ diameter (rolled)
Weight: 0.6 lbs.

Pong iPhone case

Pong iPhone case -- $ 60.00| Buy it here

So, if you read all the gadget blogs, you’ll have read about the Pong iPhone case. Apparently it deflects harmful radiation away from your head, which sounds really great, but there are complaints of the price and a little bit of skepticism on how well it works. I’ll not go into all the details, but if you’re interested you can read for yourself how it works (see below for the write-ups).

The first scientifically-proven radiation reduction case. Let the embedded Pong module protect your head while the form-fitting case protects your iPhone 3G and 3GS from the rigors of heavy duty use. Pong’s special silicone formula guarantees that your phone maintains full signal strength and battery life.

Cell Phone Telephoto Lens

Cell Phone Telephoto Lens -- $ 30.00| Buy it here | [via]

Hmm. Sometimes I wish my phone would take better pictures, but as to whether I would go to the trouble to carry this around and put it on when I want to take (better) pictures, I just don’t know. I’m curious as to how well it would work.

Simply and easily top the camera on your cell phone, iPhone or any other smart phone with this external lens, sure to upgrade your phone’s camera to create high-quality photos. Coated optical lens for magnifying objects up to 8 times; clear focus; adjustable clamp for fitting most phones.

Adjusts from approx 1.5″w to 2.75″w.

Pentax Optio H90

Pentax Optio H90 -- $ 179.95| Buy it here

I love this little camera. It’s specs are perfectly competitive: 12 Megapixels, HD video recording and it’s designed to be compatible with the Eye-fi wireless memory cards which mean you can connect to your computer and upload your pictures without a cable. The best thing about it though are the colours and the styling. It’s very minimal with a distinctly Japanese look and the colours are very refreshing. Orange if you’re bold or clean black and white if you’re more conservative.

Available from February 2010 for $179.95

Parafernalia Falter 2D Designer Pen

Parafernalia Falter 2D Designer Pen -- $ 39.00| Buy it here

Otherwise known as ‘the pen that you make’, this pen is handmade out of industrial steel. The snap apart template includes elements to make a ball point pen, stand and mini ruler. Now, you ask, why in the world would you pay $40 for a pen that you have to make when there’s a dozen perfectly good bic pens at your disposal? Good question. For the tinkering, I suppose, or for the novelty. I found more pics and info at Visual Streak, if you’re interested.
