Patricia Urquiola is a master at taking any material and making it look soft and delicate.
The inspiration for the Bague table lamp was drawn from the shape of a ring. It was first presented with material never before used to make a lamp. The result was a stretched metal mesh painted white or light grey, whose surface was covered in transparent silicone resin, to diffuse a soft filtered light. A thick plexiglass ‘stopper’ was used to cut glare and increase the propagation of light upwards. [posted by kris]

Sure, not everyone's going to plunk down $500 for a lamp, but it is an excellent, excellent design. If you have it for the next thirty years, you could say it's worth the $1.38 per month that it averages out to be, but then, I guess you could use that formula to justify buying anything expensive.

This is a quick and easy way to dress up a bare lightbulb...
The Bulbcap is a lampshade, slightly more than a lightbulb. The caps are directly pulled over the lightbulbs of up to 40 watts. Any wattage can work when using economical lightbulbs. The Bulbcaps can be fixed on hanging bulbs from the ceiling, or on standing lamps of any kind. Mix and match various colors to create a collage of lights![posted by katie]

This is such a lovely light...
The lamp, designed by Ani+Lumigrane, was debuted at IDS08 and was an instant success. Co-created by Frederic Guibrunet, a paper-maker with a decade of practice, and Parisian Didier Boursin, an expert in origami. Their talents combined into a paper explosion of maple leaves that looks gorgeous on and off. [posted by katie]

I recently saw this in person and it's pretty spectacular.
The James R. Moder Broadway Linear Crystal Chandelier is old-world, crystal magnificence in a contemporary setting. Crystals hang from both ends of multiple strands that can be wound around the central fixture. Truly, no two Broadway chandeliers are the same, as the strands can be positioned randomly, creating a unique layer of crystal on both sides of the Candelabra lamps. [posted by katie]

It's always intriguing to see which design studio is putting out what, and which products actually make it through the initial 'wow' factor and into the actual 'i want that and am willing to pay for it' consumer realm. So, with that said, Puur Design Studio has a small but interesting array of furniture and home accessories. I especially love the 'Whoa' light with the base that plugs directly into the outlet and allows you to bend around any which way you want.
