The aim of Thomas Bentzen’s Around table for Muuto is functional simplicity. For this Thursday’s design classic we have Frank Gehry’s Easy Edges Low Table Set. You’ll probably recognize these, as Gehry is well known for using cardboard to make several pieces (Wiggle Chair, Wiggle Stool) of the Easy Edges Collection. Of course, most the world recognizes Gehry for his architecture rather than his use of a rather humble material in surprisingly sturdy furniture.

Ran across this cast concrete stool/side table while on Svpply yesterday. Considering the design and actual heft, I’d say $375 isn’t too bad of a deal. In fact, if I saw this in a high-design storefront, I would probably guess a much higher price tag. It can go outside in a patio or garden or be just at home next to a sofa. Brad Nelson is a contemporary furniture designer working in Carbondale, Colorado. The proportions of his Japenesque line are playful and exaggerated, and the pieces have an intense visual weight to them and I think they’re really interesting. I love the contrasting natural and black wood tones.

Sometimes West Elm really knocks some winners right out of the park and I’ve got to say I’m impressed with this little side table. The wood is sustainably harvested and the top removes and doubles as a tray.
