Whenever I see the Slow Chair by the Bouroullec brothers, I am reminded of their Maison Flottante (floating house : interiors 2006) where it is shown prominently as the main living area seating. Also, Vitra has a short article on the making of Slow chair…apparently “It all started with ladies’ tights.”
ronan and erwan bouroullec created this expansive armchair & ottoman by using an extremely strong, precisely shaped knit which is stretched over the metal frame like a fitted stocking. thanks to the knit sling cover, the slow chair combines soft comfort with ergonomic support, which is further enhanced by the thin seat and back cushions. the translucent sling cover replaces the thick cushions of traditional armchairs, resulting in a design that is lightweight, yet generously proportioned.
chair dimensions: 35” x 37.5” x 36.5”, $3,155.00
ottoman: 13″ x 27.25″ x 20.75″, $1,550.00
